And on the first day of summer, the boys in blue . . . lost another one. This time there was no come back after getting down 8-0 to the Cincinnati Reds with the score ending up 11-1. But, in the minor leagues . . .
Buffalo Bisons 3, Rochester Red Wings 6
In Game 1 of the double header, Deck McGuire got out to a great start, mowing down the Rochester Red Wings in the first four innings, allowing just two walks but the wheels on the Deck Express fell off in the fifth as the Red Wings struck for four runs on their way to getting six runs (five earned) in six innings off of McGuire. The offense struck for three runs early on a three-run blast by Brad Glenn and Dan Johnson was 2/2 with a double and a walk while Ryan Goins was 2/3.

Buffalo Bisons 7, Rochester Red Wings 3
The Bisons split the double header, getting a great spot start from Raul Valdes who went five innings, allowing just two runs. Brad Glenn continues his hot hitting, going 3/3 with a double and two RBI. Kevin Pillar also had a big game with a single, double, walk, two RBI and two runs scored. Darin Mastroianni also had a pair of hits.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 1, Trenton Thunder 2
The Fisher Cats came out on the wrong end of a squeaker, losing 2-1. Derrick Chung had two of the team’s six hits but no one hit any extra-base hits for the Fisher Cats. Radhames Liz went six scoreless innings, allowing just four hits and one walk but Tyler Ybarra couldn’t hold the Thunder off, allowing two runs in his two innings.

Dunedin Blue Jays 5, Brevard County Manatees 3
Kendall Graveman continues to impress on the mound. This time, he went seven strong innings, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk with four strikeouts for the win. The offense was led by Dwight Smith, Jr., who hit his fifth home run of the season, going 3/4 with two runs scored. Kevin Patterson also went deep (his sixth), going 2/4 while Nick Baligod went 2/3 with a double and a walk.

Lansing Lugnuts 3, Bowling Green Hot Rods 4
The Lansing Lugnuts scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth but couldn’t complete a comeback victory over the Bowling Green Hot Rods. Starter Chase De Jong had probably his best start of the season, going six innings and tallying eight strikeouts without walking a man while allowing one run on four hits. Phil Kish was tagged with the loss and Scott Silverstein allowed two runs in his one inning of work. For the batters, everyone in the batting order registered at least one hit except for Matt Dean who was held hitless in four at bats. Mitch Nay and David Harris each had a pair of hits and Nay had a double and Harris a triple and an RBI.

Vancouver Canadians 3, Hillsboro Hops 2
The Canadians held off a late charge by the Hillsboro Hops to hold on to a 3-2 victory in Saturday. Zakery Wasilewski had a great second outing; the lefty threw 6 2/3 scoreless innings and allowed just two hits and one walk with five strikeouts. Kamakani Usui was charged the two Hillsboro runs in the ninth inning. Tim Locastro and Boomer Collins each had two hits and Collins drove in all three runs for the C’s and added a stolen base. Of note, Franklin Barreto had neither a hit nor an error and stole a base.

Bluefield Blue Jays 0, Johnson City Cardinals 3
There wasn’t much to say about this quiet game for the Bluefield side. Joey Aquino started and went two innings, allowing just one unearned run while Oscar Cabrera was strong, throwing four innings, allowing a hit and a walk while striking out five. J.T. Autrey allowed two more runs without get a runner out while Michael Kraft stranded a pair, throwing two scoreless innings and Chase Wellbrock finished the game off. The Baby Jays only had three hits: one by Rowdy Tellez, one by Trent Miller and one by Austin Davis.

GCL Blue Jays 1, GCL Phillies 6
Bobby Wheatley got the start for the Jays and he allowed three runs in two innings while Angel Perdomo coughed up two runs in three innings. Daniel Rodriguez allowed an unearned run in his inning while Brandon Hinkle and Joe Claver each threw a scoreless frame. Cliff Brantley moved his average to .667 by going 1/2 while Juan Tejada blasted his second home run of this young season.

DSL Blue Jays 1, DSL Braves 6
At least the 6-1 defeat on Saturday was better than the 24-4 drubbing at the hands of DSL Rangers on Friday (by exactly a factor of four). Luis Gomez went five innings, allowing just three hits and one walk but was tagged for three unearned runs while striking out six. Guillermo De La Cruz threw 1 2/3 innings and allowed two runs (one unearned) while Pedro Diaz allowed one unearned run in 2 1/3 innings. Eddy Alcantara had two singles but that was aall with just four hits and one walk by the rest of the squad.

June 22 Preview
Buffalo Bisons (36-37)
The Bisons get a boost with the promotion of P.J. Walters. He’ll make his first International League appearance today, getting the start against Rochester’s Sean Gilmartin who has just one Triple-A start this year under his belt since getting promoted from New Britain. Catch this one at 1:05 PM ET on MiLB TV or in Buffalo!
New Hampshire Fisher Cats (30-43)
Funny story: MiLB has P.J. Walters listed as starting for both Buffalo and New Hampshire but with Walters’ promotion, Casey Lawrence was activated off the DL and will likely get the start in a 1:05 PM game in Trenton that’s available on MiLB TV.
Dunedin Blue Jays (48-24)
The D-Jays send Ben White to the hill against Brevard County’s Hobbs Johnson who has a 2.57 ERA in 73 2/3 innings with a K/BB ratio of better than 4.00. White is 3-4 with an ERA of 4.98. The game is at 5:00 PM.
Lansing Lugnuts (33-39)
The Lugnuts play a 2:05 PM ET game against the Bowling Green Hot Rods, sending Shane Dawson (2-3, 3.73 ERA) to the hill against Jaime Schultz (2-0, 0.93 ERA).
Vancouver Canadians (5-4)
Vancouver’s matinee against the 6-3 Hillsboro Hops goes off at 4:35 PM ET in Hillsboro. Vancouver’s starter hasn’t been announced on MiLB TV but is likely to be Starlyn Suriel.
Bluefield Blue Jays (1-2)
Bluefield also hasn’t announced their starter for their 6:00 PM match in Kingsport against the Mets’ Appalachian League affiliate.
