The Blue Jays’ minor league clubs were 4-3 in seven games on Thursday.

 

Buffalo Bisons 1, Pawtucket Red Sox 4

 

The Buffalo Bisons’ bats were kept at bay by the Pawtucket Red Sox in a 4-1 loss. Darnell Sweeney was credited for two of the Bisons’ six hits, going 2/3 and added a walk and a run. Rowdy Tellez was 1/3 with a walk and an RBI while Reese McGuire was on base twice, going 1/3 with a walk and a stolen base.

Sean Reid-Foley went five innings, giving up four runs on seven hits and four walks with seven strikeouts, throwing 103 pitches in total. Jake Petricka gave the rest of the bullpen a day off with an economical three innings (using just 32 pitches), allowing three hits and a walk with one strikeout to finish the game.

Dunedin Blue Jays 4, Clearwater Threshers 5

 

Rodrigo Orozco

The Dunedin Blue Jays showed some spunk late but ultimately, it was “too little, too late” as the Clearwater Threshers hung on to beat the Jays 5-4. Nash Knight and Rodrigo Orozco each had two hits with Knight scoring a run while Kevin Smith provided late-inning fireworks, hitting a two-run home run in the top of the ninth to get the D-Jays within one run and he went 1/4 on the night.

Angel Perdomo had a decent start, allowing three runs on six hits with a walk and five strikeouts over five innings. Jake Fishman allowed a run on three hits with two strikeouts in two innings and Jackson McClelland gave up a run on a hit and a walk with two strikeouts in the eighth.

Lansing Lugnuts 4, Great Lakes Loons 3

 

Ryan Noda

It took 10 innings but the Lansing Lugnuts completed their come-from-behind win and went from being down 3-0 to a 4-3 win to open the second half of their season. After Ryan Noda had tripled to in the bottom of the eighth to drive in the tying run, it took until a throwing error by the Loons’ pitcher with runners on first and second on Yeltsin Gudino‘s sacrifice bunt to bring Reggie Pruitt around to score the winner. Noda was 3/4 with a single, double and triple, driving in two runs and scoring one. Brock Lundquist was 2/3 and was hit by a pitch while Ryan Gold was 1/4 with an RBI. Yeltsin Gudino was 2/3 with a walk and two runs.

Matthew Gunter started for the Lugnuts, going 3 1/3 innings and giving up three runs on seven hits with four walks. Brayden Bouchey was excellent in relief, allowing only three hits over 2 2/3 innings and striking out five. Kyle Weatherly provided two innings of one-hit relief before Matt Shannon took over, retiring all six batters he faced and striking out one to get the win.

Vancouver Canadians 0, Everett AquaSox 1

 

Randy Pondler

The Vancouver Canadians lost a brisk battle to the Everett AquaSox, falling 1-0 in a game that had just 10 hits by both teams combined. Randy Pondler, in his second outing was solid, giving up just a solo home run among four hits and two walks with six strikeouts to take his second loss of the year. Orlando Pascual pitched two hitless innings, striking out one and Connor Law struck out two, giving up a hit in the ninth.

The Canadians had just five hits including a double from Vinny Capra and singles from Tanner Kirwer, Bryan Lizardo (who also walked), Reilly Johnson and Brandon Polizzi.

Bluefield Blue Jays 11, Johnson City Cardinals 10

 

The Johnson City Cardinals made it close with eight runs over the last two innings but the Bluefield Blue Jays held on to win 11-10. Davis Schneider hit his first home run of the year, going 2/5 with two RBI but also striking out three times. Alejandro Kirk was 4/5 with a double, three RBI and a run and Dominic Abbadessa also drove in three, going 3/5 with a double and two runs. D.J. Neal had three hits with a single, double and triple, driving in one and scoring three times and Otto Lopez (2/5, 2B, 2 R), Jose Theran (2/5, RBI), Jesus Severino (2/4) and Andres Guerra (2/4, R) also having two hits. D.J. Daniels only had one hit, a double, scoring once.

Claudio Galva earned the win, allowing two runs on four hits (including a home run) with four strikeouts in five innings. Matt Harris followed and struck out four in two innings, allowing a hit and a walk. Adams Cuevas was charged with four runs in one inning, allowing three hits (and two home runs) with one walk and two strikeouts. Josh Almonte had more trouble in his second outing as a pitcher than he did in his first, pitching to four batters and hitting one, allowing a single and then two walks. He was ultimately charged with four runs without retiring a batter. Joe DiBenedetto struck out the one batter he faced and Sean Rackoski allowed a hit and the bases to clear before getting two outs to earn his first professional save.

GCL Blue Jays 9, GCL Phillies East 7

 

Three three-run innings lifted the GCL Blue Jays to a 9-7 win over the GCL Phillies East on Thursday afternoon. Griffin Conine led the way, going 3/5 with a double and three RBI, also picking up an outfield assist from right field. Jordan Groshans had another two singles, going 2/4 with a walk and an RBI, scoring a run but he made three errors at shortstop. Cal Stevenson was 2/4 with a walk, an RBI, and three runs while Yhordegny Kelly was 2/4 with two doubles and a run. Adrian Ramos was 2/4 with a double, an RBI, two runs and a stolen base.

Rafael Monsion started, picking up his first win of the year, going five innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits with three strikeouts. Craig Breslow, making an appearance on a rehab assignment, allowed a hit and struck out one in one inning. Anderson Nunez had a clean seventh. Alexander Molina allowed five runs on three hits and a walk in two-thirds of an inning but they were all unearned and Gaudy Ramirez, coming in with two runners on, allowed one inherited runner to score but no runs of his own, surrendering two hits with two strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings, nailing down the save.

DSL Blue Jays 8, DSL Padres 3

 

Miguel Hiraldo had a great day, leading the DSL Blue Jays to an 8-3 victory over the DSL Padres. Hiraldo was 4/4 with a walk, two RBI and a run, adding a stolen base. Jhon Solarte was 2/3 with a walk, three runs and a stolen base. Erickvi Celedonio was 2/5 with a double and two RBI and Kenny Mauricio went 2/4 with a walk and a run. Hanley Acevedo drove in a pair of runs, going 1/6 with a triple and a run. Catcher Geyber Jimenez also hit a triple, going 1/2 with a walk and a run, coming in for Jesus Hernandez.

Santos Moreno had a strong start, going four innings and allowing two hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Eliezer Bello pitched the fifth, walking two  and Jhoan Dominguez went two innings, allowing a hit and two walks with four strikeouts. Moises De La Cruz cruised through the eighth but hit a snag in the ninth, giving up a double and three walks before he was pulled for Pedro Padilla. Padilla allowed a two more runs to score (both charged to De La Cruz) before finishing off the game.
