June 19, 2017 Toronto Blue Jays Minor League Report

The Vancouver Canadians and the DSL Blue Jays won their games on Monday with the Buffalo Bisons and Dunedin Blue Jays losing. The Lansing Lugnuts and New Hampshire Fisher Cats were off.

 

Buffalo Bisons 0, Rochester Red Wings 7

 

Chris Rowley

The Buffalo Bisons couldn’t get anything going with the bat against the Rochester Red Wings, dropping the opener of their series 7-0. Brett Oberholtzer allowed six runs in 2 1/3 innings, giving up 11 hits and a walk with three strikeouts. Chris Rowley made his Triple-A debut with 4 2/3 strong relief innings, allowing just one run on six hits and three walks but with five strikeouts. Wil Browning tossed a scoreless eighth.

The Bisons had just four hits including a double from Jarrod Saltalamacchia and a single and a walk from Christian Lopes.

Player of the Game: Chris Rowley

Roster Notes: Leonel Campos was promoted to the Blue Jays and Chad Girodo was placed on the DL. Jon Berti was assigned to Dunedin to begin a rehab assignment. Chris Rowley was promoted to Triple-A.

Dunedin Blue Jays 2, Lakeland Flying Tigers 3

 

Conor Fisk

The Dunedin Blue Jays lost their second-half opener on Monday, falling 3-2 to the Lakeland Flying Tigers. Conor Fisk had a solid start, allowing two runs on seven hits (including a home run) and a walk  while striking out five over five innings. Ryan Cook allowed a run in his inning of work while Philip Walby struck out a pair in his inning. Josh DeGraaf and Zach Jackson each tossed a scoreless frame to keep it a one-run game.

The Blue Jays had just six hits including two from D.J. Davis. Lourdes Gurriel made his return to the lineup, driving in a run with a sac fly but also committing an error. Jon Berti was 0/3 with a walk, a stolen base and a run. Bradley Jones had a rough night, striking out four times.

Vancouver Canadians 6, Eugene Emeralds 3

 

The Vancouver Canadians got back on the winning side of the ledger after beating the Eugene Emeralds 6-3. Dany Jimenez, the Canadians’ fifth starter, had a great outing in his season debut. Jimenez allowed just one hit, a solo home run, in his five innings of work, striking out five and not walking anyone. Miguel Burgos followed, giving up two runs on four hits including a solo home run in two innings and William Ouellette had a strong finish to the game, earning the save with two scoreless innings, allowing two hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

Chavez Young did the most damage with his bat, going 2/4 with a double and two RBIs, scoring a run. Norberto Obeso had the Canadians’ only home run, a solo shot in the fifth inning, and was 1/4 with two runs. Kevin Vicuna drove in a run, going 1/4 with a run and Lance Jones was 1/4 with a double and an RBI.

DSL Blue Jays 3, DSL Padres 7

 

The DSL Blue Jays had their pitchers get hit hard by the DSL Padres in a 7-3 loss. Nathanael Perez started and allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits with three strikeouts in four innings and Adolfo Molina gave up another three runs (one earned) on a hit and two walks in the fifth. Jhon Victorino walked four batters and gave up a hit, getting just one out, allowing two runs. Juan Jimenez saved the day, stranding the bases loaded, walking one and striking out one in 2 2/3 innings for the rest of the game.

Warnel Valdez was the offensive star, going 4/4 with a double and an RBI and scoring a run, accounting for half of the Blue Jays’ hits.
