June 16, 2017 Toronto Blue Jays Minor League Report

The Dunedin Blue Jays are off for the All-Star break but five of the Blue Jays’ minor league squads were in action, going 3-2 in the aggregate.

 

Buffalo Bisons 1, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 8

 

The Buffalo Bisons took an 8-1 loss as they opened their series against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on Friday night. Luis Santos tossed five innings, allowing four runs despite striking out 10 and Murphy Smith gave up four more runs over two innings on six hits and two walks. John Stilson pitched the final two innings, striking out three.

The Bisons had just three hits including a double from Ian Parmley. Rowdy Tellez was 0/3 with a walk and his batting average has dipped below the Mendoza Line to .199

Player of the Game: None

Roster Notes: Jose Marorga (who I’m more convinced is acting as another coach for the squad) was put back on the 7-day DL and Roemon Fields was activated off the temporarily inactive list.

 

 

 

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 9, Bowie Baysox 5

 

Gunnar Heidt

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats continue to roll, coming from behind to defeat the Bowie Baysox 9-5 with five runs in the ninth inning. Gunnar Heidt blasted his seventh home run of the season, going 3/4 with a walk, a double, three runs and two RBI. Tim Lopes also had three hits, going 3/5 with a double and Richard Urena drove in two, going 3/5 with a double and a run. Ryan McBroom was 2/5 with a double, an RBI and a run while Harold Ramirez was also 2/5 with two RBI and a run. Derrick Loveless was on base four times, going 1/1 with three walks, two runs and an RBI.

Shane Dawson was the starter, going five innings and allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits. Alonzo Gonzalez allowed the fifth run over two innings, walking one and allowing a hit. Dusty Isaacs picked up the win, throwing a scoreless eighth and Tim Mayza finished the game, striking out a pair and walking one in the ninth.

Lansing Lugnuts 8, West Michigan Whitecaps 15

The Lansing Lugnuts were on the receiving end of a good, old-fashioned drubbing at the hands of the West Michigan Whitecaps who defeated them 15-8. The offense churned out 16 hits including three from Rodrigo Orozco who was 3/6 with a double, an RBI, a run and a stolen base. Midwest League leading hitter Bo Bichette maintained his .400 average by going 2/5 with a double, an RBI, a run and a stolen base while Vladimir Guerrero movedĀ  his average up to .327 with two hits including a double, a walk, two RBI and a run. Nash Knight had two hits including a two-run home run, his first of the year, and he finished the (k)night with two RBI. Mitch Nay was 2/5 with a triple and an RBI while Ridge Smith was 2/3 with two doubles, two walks and two runs. Yeltsin Gudino also had a pair of hits.

Mike Ellenbest was the starter and he was charged with nine runs (eight earned) on 11 hits and two walks in just 1 1/3 innings. Griffin Glaude allowed two of his three inherited runners to score but that was all, allowing four hits over 2 2/3 innings. Yonardo Herdenez gave up four runs over three innings and Andrew Deramo allowed another two runs on four hits and three walks in just two innings at the end of the game.

Vancouver Canadians 7, Eugene Emeralds 0

 

The Vancouver Canadians rolled over the Eugene Emeralds 7-0 in their second game of the season, getting an excellent start from Dalton Rodriguez who went five shutout innings. Rodriguez allowed just four hits and one walk with four strikeouts in his season debut. Juliandry Higuera struck out five in two innings, giving up just one hit while Chris Hall struck out two in his inning of work. Bobby Eveld made his season debut, striking out a pair and giving up a hit in the ninth inning.

Deiferson Barreto and Lance Jones had a pair of hits and a walk each with Jones scoring twice. Chavez Young was 1/5 with a triple, driving in three runs.

Player of the Game: Dalton Rodriguez

 

DSL Blue Jays 6, DSL White Sox 5

 

The DSL Blue Jays picked up their 10th win of the season, beating the DSL White Sox 6-5, walking their way to victory. The Blue Jays took 10 walks including two each by Rafael Lantigua (who was 2/3 with a run), Steward Berroa (0/3, 2 R) and Andres Martinez (1/3). Gabriel Moreno only walked once but was 3/4 with two RBI and Warnel Valdez was 2/5 with a run.

Naswell Paulino struck out six White Sox in four innings, allowing just two hits and two walks. Adolfo Molina allowed four runs but they were all unearned, giving up two hits in his inning. Emanuel Vizcaino gave up three walks and a hit leading to a run in 1 2/3 innings with two strikeouts and Juan Diaz picked up the win with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless ball, stranding two runners and walking only one. Elixon Caballero earned the save, walking one and striking out one.

Player of the Game: Gabriel Moreno and Naswell Paulino
