Were it not for the Lansing Lugnuts, the Blue Jays minor league teams would have lost all four games on Sunday. With the help of a couple of home runs and the Midwest League batting leader who knocked another three hits, the Lugnuts came back from an early deficit to beat Fort Wayne.

 

Buffalo Bisons 2, Pawtucket Red Sox 3

 

The Buffalo Bisons continued their struggle with the Pawtucket Red Sox, dropping a close one 3-2 on Sunday in which the long ball made the difference. Luis Santos allowed three runs on seven hits (including two home runs) and three walks, striking out five over six innings. Chris Smith finished the game, allowing a run and a walk in two innings with one strikeout.

The Bisons had just three hits including a two-run home run, his seventh with the Bisons, from catcher Raffy Lopez.

Roster Notes: Roemon Fields was placed on the temporarily inactive list.

 

 

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 3, Akron RubberDucks 7

 

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats lost again, despite a solid effort from starter Jon Harris, falling 7-3 to the Akron RubberDucks. Harris’s record dropped to 2-6 despite allowing only two runs on seven hits and three walks over six innings with five strikeouts. Alonzo Gonzalez allowed four runs on five hits (including two home runs) and a walk in 2/3 of an inning, leaving two batters on for Jose Fernandez who escaped the inning and threw a scoreless eighth. Andrew Case allowed a run on two hits and two walks in the ninth.

The club had just five hits including two doubles from Gunnar Heidt who drove in a run. Matt Dean drove in a run and took a walk while Alex Monsalve hit a double and scored. Ryan McBroom was 1/4 with another RBI.

Dunedin Blue Jays 4, Bradenton Marauders 8

 

While the Bradenton Marauders scored two runs in the top of the first inning, the Dunedin Blue Jays had an answer, getting a three-run home run from Bradley Jones in the bottom half to briefly take the lead. Unfortunately, the Blue Jays wouldn’t score again until the ninth and, by then, it was too little, too late in an 8-4 loss. For Jones, it was his only hit but his first home run in Dunedin. The club had just six hits including two from rehabbing infielder Gregorio Petit (playing third base) who was 2/4.

Conor Fisk was chased in the second inning, allowing seven runs (four earned) on five hits and three walks in 1 2/3 innings. Philip Walby gave up five hits and a walk but didn’t allow a run of his own in 3 1/3 innings, striking out two. Adonys Cardona surrendered a run on three hits in two innings and Jackson McClelland and Zach Jackson each pitched a scoreless inning to finish the game.

Lansing Lugnuts 6, Fort Wayne TinCaps 5

 

The Lansing Lugnuts were stymied by Fort Wayne starter Reggie Lawson but came alive against the bullpen, beating the TinCaps 6-5. The Lugnuts came from behind, scoring all of their runs in the seventh and eighth innings for the win. Bo Bichette once again led the offense, hitting two more doubles (to give him 25 on the season), going 3/4 and raising his batting average to .388. J.B. Woodman was 1/3 with a walk and a three-run home run while Edward Olivares added a solo shot in the eighth. Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. was 1/3 with a walk, an RBI, a run and a stolen base.

On the mound, Mike Ellenbest allowed all five Fort Wayne runs, giving up three home runs among seven hits and two walks over  6 1/3 innings. Kirby Snead blew the save, allowing both of Ellenbest’s left runners to score but went 1 2/3 innings, getting all five outs via the strikeout and allowed just one hit. Connor Eller got the save, giving up two hits in his inning, striking out one.
