I’m back from my sojourn to the Ottawa area for a couple of performances at a Medieval Festival where Wi-Fi wasn’t part of the package. It’s time to catch up on the weekend’s action in the Blue Jays’ minor leagues. The GCL Blue Jays won their two games against the GCL Yankees West club, getting outstanding pitching on both days. The Jays are 12-3 and in first place by a game in the GCL Northwest division.

Guadalupe Chavez was the pitcher of record for the Blue Jays, going to 3-0 with a rather ordinary start (on the positive spectrum), giving up two runs on seven hits and one walk with three strikeouts. The offense was fairly quiet. David Jacob was 2/4 with a home run and two RBI while Joshua Palacios was 2/4 with a double. Francisco Rodriguez was 1/4 with a solo home run.

GCL Blue Jays 1, GCL Yankees West 0

With sterling pitching on both sides and the professional debut of the Blue Jays’ first-round pick from this year, the GCL Blue Jays beat the Yankees West club 1-0. T.J. Zeuch got the start, throwing three hitless innings, striking out two and generating seven ground ball outs. Travis Bergen (1 IP), Zach Jackson (1 IP, 1 H), Travis Hosterman (1 IP, 2 BB) all followed with an inning each before Dany Jimenez finished the game with three scoreless innings, finishing the shutout by striking out six batters and giving up two hits and two walks.

The Blue Jays scored thanks to an RBI single from Bo Bichette while Francisco Rodriguez was 1/4 with a triple.
