July 6, 2017 Toronto Blue Jays Minor League Report

While the Toronto Blue Jays’ four full-season teams all lost on Thursday, all four short-season teams won to give them an aggregate record of 4-4 for the day.

 

Buffalo Bisons 3, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 4

 

The Buffalo Bisons were in a position to beat the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders after seven innings and after the top of the 11th but the bullpen coughed up leads on both occasions, leading to a 4-3 loss in 11 innings. Cesar Valdez was outstanding, giving up just seven hits and one walk through seven innings, striking out three but it was all for nought. Matt Dermody gave up the first RailRiders run, an unearned one on two hits in the eighth. Chris Smith tossed the ninth, giving up another run on two hits. J.P. Howell threw a scoreless 10th in his rehab outing while Murphy Smith only got one out (via a strikeout) in the 11th, taking the loss, allowing two runs (one earned).

Jason Leblebijian was 2/5, as were Gregorio Petit (RBI, R, SB) and Roemon Fields (RBI, SB). Dalton Pompey was 1/4 with a double and an RBI and Dwight Smith, Jr. was 1/5 with a double.

Player of the Game: Cesar Valdez

Roster Notes: Griffin Glaude was assigned to the Buffalo Bisons from the New Hampshire Fisher Cats and J.P. Howell was sent to Buffalo on a rehab assignment.

 

 

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 7, Portland Sea Dogs 8

 

Andrew Guillotte

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats played a little like the Buffalo Bisons on Thursday night, having a lead heading into the bottom of the ninth but giving it up in an 8-7 loss to the Portland Sea Dogs. Tim Lopes had four of the Fisher Cats’ 15 hits, going 4/5 with a double and two RBI while Andrew Guillotte was also on base four times, going 3/4 with a double, a walk, an RBI and three runs. Jake Thomas was 2/4 with a walk and an RBI and Harold Ramirez was 2/5 with a double and a stolen base, adding an outfield assist. Richard Urena was 1/3 with a double, a walk, two RBI and two runs.

Conner Greene had a solid start and should have come away with a win after seven strong innings, giving up three runs on nine hits and a walk with six strikeouts. Danny Young gave up a run on three hits in 2/3 of an inning and Carlos Ramirez finished the eighth by retiring the only batter he faced. Justin Shafer took the loss, giving up four runs on a grand slam to Jeremy Barfield in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Griffin Glaude was promoted to the Buffalo Bisons and Yonardo Herdenez was promoted to New Hampshire from Bluefield.

 

Dunedin Blue Jays 0, Lakeland Flying Tigers 8

The Dunedin Blue Jays were shut out for the second game in a row, losing 8-0 to the Lakeland Flying Tigers. Starter Angel Perdomo put the Blue Jays behind the eight ball, giving up seven runs (six earned) on five hits and three walks in two-plus innings. Ryan Cook allowed both inherited runs to score but shut the door thereafter, tossing two innings and giving up two hits and striking out three. Adonys Cardona gave up a run on three hits in the fifth and Jackson McClelland allowed a hit and struck out one in the sixth. Philip Walby walked two batters and struck out one in two scoreless innings to finish the game.

Connor Panas and J.C. Cardenas were each 2/4 with a double and together accounted for four of the D-Jays’ six hits (with Michael De La Cruz and Lourdes Gurriel providing one each).

Roster Notes: Dominic Abbadessa was sent back to the GCL Blue Jays.

 

Lansing Lugnuts 2, West Michigan Whitecaps 3

 

Vladimir Guerrero

Despite losing to the club that they just can’t seem to beat, the Lansing Lugnuts kept the game close in a well-played game, losing 3-2 to the West Michigan Whitecaps. Mike Ellenbest gave up two runs despite walking six and giving up four hits in five innings. Andrew Deramo took the loss, giving up a run on four hits and two walks in two innings and Jared Carkuff finished the game with two scoreless innings, giving up one hit and striking out two.

The Lugnuts had just five hits including the seventh home run of the year from Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. Bo Bichette was 1/2 with two walks and Nash Knight and Edward Olivares each hit a double.

Vancouver Canadians 4, Boise Hawks 1

 

The Vancouver Canadians are cruising thanks to some great pitching and timely offense in a 4-1 win over the Boise Hawks. Brody Rodning made his Vancouver debut with two innings of one-run ball on two hits and two walks. Wilfri Aleton went five scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out five. Jake Fishman walked two but also struck out two in a scoreless eighth and Grayson Huffman got his first save of the year with a scoreless ninth.

Three Canadians had two hits apiece with Reggie Pruitt goint 2/5 with a run and a stolen base, Kevin Vicuna going 2/3 with a triple, an RBI, a run, a stolen base and a sac fly and Riley Adams going 2/4 with an RBI. Deiferson Barreto also added a double.

Bluefield Blue Jays 11, Burlington Royals 1

 

The Bluefield Blue Jays were set to repeat on Thursday as they duplicated the same score they had on Wednesday, beating the Burlington Royals 11-1 again. Ryan Noda continues to demolish the Appalachian League, going 3/4 with a walk, two doubles, three runs and an RBI, bringing his batting average to .500. Chavez Young was 2/5 with a triple and two runs and Ryan Gold was 2/5 with two RBI and a run, bringing his batting average to .400. Jesus Severino drove in two runs, going 1/5 with a double and Jesus Navarro also hit a double. Yorman Rodriguez was 2/4 with an RBI and a run.

Maximo Castillo gave up just one run on seven hits (including a home run), striking out three over five innings for the win. Kelyn Jose tossed two innings, giving up a hit and a walk with one strikeout. Jose Nova and Graham Spraker each threw an inning to finish the game.

Player of the Game: Ryan Noda

Roster Notes: Yonardo Herdenez was promoted again to New Hampshire.

 

GCL Blue Jays 7, GCL Braves 6

 

Joseph Reyes

The GCL Blue Jays picked up another win with a three-run explosion in the seventh inning, overcoming five errors to beat the GCL Braves 7-6. Joseph Reyes had three of the club’s 15 hits, going 3/4 with a walk and a run. Jose Theran (2/4, 2B, BB, RBI), Luis De Los Santos (2/5, 3B, RBI, R, SB), Aldo Ovando (2/5, RBI, R), D.J. Daniels (2/5, 2 R) and Yhordegny Kelly (2/4, 2 2B, BB, RBI) also had two hits.

Alvery De Los Santos gave up two home runs to total three runs (two earned) on three hits and a walk in 1 2/3 innings. Claudio Galva gave up three more runs (two earned) on six hits in 4 1/3 innings and Justin Watts got the win with two perfect innings, striking out three. He was followed by Jonathan Cheshire who tossed a perfect ninth, striking out two to earn the save.

Player of the Game: Joseph Reyes

Roster Notes: Dominic Abbadessa was assigned back to the GCL Blue Jays.

 

DSL Blue Jays 3, DSL Orioles 1

 

The DSL Blue Jays continue their domination of the Dominican Summer League with their 21st win of the season, defeating the DSL Orioles 3-1. The club had just six hits including a single and a double from Yhon Perez. Gabriel Moreno drove in two runs, going 1/3.

Naswell Paulino allowed only one hit and three walks in 4 2/3 innings, striking out nine in a dominant performance. Luis Mendoza pitched 1 1/3, vulturing the win while Jhon Victorino, Nicolas Medina and Yunior Hinojosa each tossed one inning with just Medina giving up a run (unearned).
