July 30, 2017 Toronto Blue Jays Minor League Report

The Blue Jays’ minor league organization went 5-1 in their six scheduled games on Sunday, getting a huge win from the Dunedin Blue Jays.

 

Buffalo Bisons 7, Louisville Bats 2

 

Raffy Lopez

The Buffalo Bisons picked up a rare victory these days, beating the Louisville Bats 7-2 on Sunday. Four players shared the offensive load, getting two hits each. Jon Berti was 2/5 with a triple, an RBI, a run and a stolen base while Dwight Smith Jr. was 2/4 with a double, a walk, an RBI, two runs and a stolen base. Jake Elmore also had two hits, going 2/4 with a triple, a walk, an RBI, a run and a stolen base and Raffy Lopez drove in two , going 2/4 with a double. Rowdy Tellez was 0/3 with a walk and a run and saw his batting average slip below the Mendoza Line to .199.

Lucas Harrell made the start, going three innings and giving up a run on three hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Tim Mayza went another three innings, allowing three hits and two walks but no runs. Leonel Campos gave up a run on two hits in his inning and Wil Browning walked three and gave up a hit, striking out two in two innings.

Roster Notes: John Stilson was placed on the DL, as was Christian Lopes. Leonel Campos was assigned to Buffalo, continuing his rehab assignment.

 

 

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 3, Binghamton Rumble Ponies 2

 

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats needed 11 innings but Lourdes Gurriel brought Anthony Alford home with a sacrifice fly to give the Fisher Cats a 3-2 victory over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. Alford was 3/5 with a double, a home run and three runs scored while Richard Urena also had a double.

Starter Francisco Rios left the game early, throwing just 46 pitches (possibly hitting his pitch limit after being activated off the DL), allowing three hits and two walks with two strikeouts in just 2 1/3 innings. Kender Villegas took over and gave up an unearned run on a hit and a walk with two strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings. Jose Fernandez also allowed an unearned run on three hits and a walk with two strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings. Carlos Ramirez kept his ERA at 0.00 with 2 1/3 scoreless innings, tossing 2 1/3 innings and Dusty Isaacs handled the final two innings, striking out three.

Roster Notes: Francisco Rios was activated off the DL and Griffin Glaude was placed on the temporarily inactive list.

 

Dunedin Blue Jays 17, Florida Fire Frogs 1

 

Juan Kelly

The Dunedin Blue Jays had themselves a tremendous day at the plate hammering the Florida Fire Frogs 17-1 and combining for 21 hits and four home runs. Christian Lopes, moving to Dunedin for his rehab, was 4/6 with a double and an RBI, scoring four times while Cavan Biggio was 4/6 with a double, a home run, three RBI and three runs. Juan Kelly drove in six, going 3/6 with a home run and two runs while Connor Panas also hit a home run, going 2/5 with three RBI, a walk and two runs. D.J. Davis hit his first home run of the season, going 1/4 with two RBI and a walk. Jake Thomas was 3/4 with a double, a walk, an RBI and a run. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. left the game early, going 1/2 with a double, two walks and two runs and Michael De La Cruz was 2/4 with a run.

On the pitching side, it was smooth sailing as Josh DeGraaf tossed seven scoreless innings, allowing just four hits and a walk with four strikeouts. Adonys Cardona gave up an unearned run on a hit and two walks in the eighth and Zach Jackson struck out the side in the ninth, also allowing a hit and a walk.

Roster Notes: Danilo Manzueta was sent down to the GCL Blue Jays.

 

Lansing Lugnuts 7, Great Lakes Loons 5

 

Edward Olivares

The Lansing Lugnuts held on for a 7-5 victory over the Great Lakes Loons, squaring their record at .500 once again. Mike Ellenbest was on the hill to start and allowed three runs on three solo home runs among seven hits and one walk with six strikeouts over five innings. Yonardo Herdenez gave up another solo home run among two hits and a walk over 2 2/3 innings and Jared Carkuff got hte save, allowing a run on two hits and a walk in 1 1/3 innings.

Edward Olivares was 3/5 with two doubles and an RBI, scoring once. Mitch Nay drove in four runs, going 1/3 with a double and a sacrifice fly. Nash Knight was on base three times with a single and two walks, driving in a run and stealing a base. Nick Sinay scored twice, going 1/3 with a walk and an RBI.

Vancouver Canadians 3, Tri-City Dust Devils 7

 

David Jacob

The Vancouver Canadians couldn’t match the Tri-City Dust Devils dropping their Sunday afternoon game 7-3 at the Nat. The Cs had just five hits including a two-run home run from David Jacob. Kacy Clemens was 1/3 with a walk and a run.

Wilfri Aleton was on the mound to start, allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits and three walks over three innings to take the loss. Brayden Bouchey gave up a hit and struck out a batter in his inning and Bobby Eveld was touched for a run on a hit and two walks in 2/3 of an inning. Angel Alicea gave up a run on four hits and a walk in two innings and Jake Fishman finished things off with 2 1/3 scoreless innings, keeping his season ERA at 0.00.

Player of the Game: David Jacob

 

Bluefield Blue Jays 7, Princeton Rays 2

 

Yorman Rodriguez

The Bluefield Blue Jays had a good game all around and beat the Princeton Rays 7-2 to open their series. Yorman Rodriguez pushed his batting average to .353 with a 3/4 game that includied his first home run of the year and three runs scored. Brandon Grudzielanek also hit a home run, going 2/3 with a walk and three RBI, scoring twice. Ryan Noda isn’t getting much to hit, taking a pair of walks and going 1/2 with an RBI and a run. Ryan Gold was 2/4 with a double and a run and Reilly Johnson was 2/4 with a triple and two RBI.

Josh Winckowski had a solid start, going 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Joe DiBenedetto went 1 1/3 innings while Kelyn Jose and Graham Spaker each added a scoreless frame to finish the game.
