In seven complete games, the Blue Jays’ affiliates went 5-2 on Saturday.

 

Buffalo Bisons 4, Indianapolis Indians 6

With newcomer Billy McKinney in the lineup, the Buffalo Bisons lost their game 6-4 against the Indianapolis Indians with former Blue Jays’ farmhand Ryan Lavarnway hitting a home run against them. Jonathan Davis was 2/4 with a stolen base while Darnell Sweeney, playing second base, was 2/3 with an RBI and a run. McKinney was 1/4 with a double and a run in his Bisons debut and Dalton Pompey was 1/3 with a walk and an RBI but was also caught stealing.

Brandon Cumpton started for the Bisons, going five innings and allowing three runs on three hits and three walks with four strikeouts. Conor Fisk took the loss, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks in 1 2/3 innings and Jose Fernandez finished the game, stranding a runner of Fisk’s and striking out two in 1 1/3 innings.

Roster Notes: Billy McKinney was activated by the Bisons and Roemon Fields was sent down to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Claudio Custodio was sent down to Dunedin and Brandon Cumpton was activated off the temporarily inactive list.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 12, Hartford Yard Goats 2

 

Even with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. away from the team, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats found a way to beat up on the Hartford Yard Goats, winning 12-2. Trying to escape his teammate’s shadow, Bo Bichette was 3/5 with two doubles, his 10th home run of the year and five RBI, scoring twice. Forrest Wall was 3/4 with a double, a walk and three runs for his new team while Jon Berti (2/4, BB, RBI, 2 R, SB) and Santiago Espinal (2/4, 2B, 2 RBI, R) had two hits each. Andrew Guillotte was 1/4 with a run and an RBI and also threw out a runner at home. Harold Ramirez was 1/4 with two RBI, a double and a run.

Josh DeGraaf took his fourth win of the season, throwing six innings of one-run ball, giving up six hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Justin Dillon gave up a run on three hits with one strikeout over two innings and Andrew Case closed the game, walking one in the ninth.

Dunedin Blue Jays 7, Jupiter Hammerheads 2

 

Brock Lundquist

The Dunedin Blue Jays hammered the Jupiter Hammerheads, getting a home run from Brock Lundquist in the 7-2 victory. Lundquist was 2/3 with a walk, two RBI and two runs while Kacy Clemens was 2/4 with two RBI, a double and a run. Riley Adams hit a triple and drove in two runs while Ivan Castillo was 2/4 with a walk and two runs but was also caught stealing. Alberto Mineo was on base twice, going 1/3 with a walk and an RBI.

Zach Logue had an excellent start, throwing 6 2/3 innings and giving up two runs on six hits and a walk with a season-high nine strikeouts. Jonathan Cheshire finished the seventh and pitched the eighth, giving up just a hit and a walk with one strikeout and Claudio Custodio pitched a clean ninth, striking out one.

Lansing Lugnuts 5, Dayton Dragons 4

 

Owen Spiwak

Despite getting outhomered two to nothing, the Lansing Lugnuts beat the Dayton Dragons 5-4 to open their series. New Lugnut Chad Spanberger was 2/4 with a run while Owen Spiwak was 2/4 with two doubles and three RBI, scoring a run. Samad Taylor was 1/4 with an RBI and his 32nd stolen base.

Matt Gunter allowed three runs on four hits (including two home runs) and two walks with two strikeouts over five innings. Dalton Rodriguez blew the save, giving up a run on four hits in two innings, striking out two but was around to earn the win. Andrew Deramo pitched a scoreless eighth, walking one and Matt Shannon picked up his fifth save, striking out one in the ninth.

Vancouver Canadians 6, Eugene Emeralds 1

 

Randy Pondler

Mc Gregory Contreras is on fire for the Vancouver Canadians as they beat the Eugene Emeralds 6-1 on Saturday. Contreras was a home run short of the cycle (and should have waited to hit one after hitting two on Thursday), going 3/4 with a single, double, triple and three RBI, scoring once and stealing a base. Yorman Rodriguez was 1/3 with a walk, an RBI, a double and two runs and Nick Podkul was 1/2 with two walks, an RBI and a stolen base. Griffin Conine was 1/4 with a triple and Vinny Capra was 1/4 with a double. Tanner Kirwer was 1/3 with a walk and a run.

Randy Pondler had a strong outing, going six innings and giving up a run on three hits with one strikeout before Troy Miller (1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 3 K), Joey Pulido (1 IP, 1 H, 3 K) and Cobi Johnson (1 IP, 1 H, 2 K) each pitched an inning to seal the victory.

Bluefield Blue Jays , Princeton Rays

 

The game was suspended after three innings with the Bluefield Blue Jays down 5-4 to the Princeton Rays because of a loss of power.

 

GCL Blue Jays 7, GCL Phillies West 10

 

Despite holding a 7-4 lead at one point, the GCL Phillies West rallied and scored six runs in the last two innings (including five runs in the ninth) to beat the GCL Blue Jays 10-7. Alejandro Melean struck out seven in 5 1/3 innings, giving up two runs on three hits and three walks but Meliton Reyes blew the save, allowing two more runs on three hits (including a home run) and a walk in 1 2/3 frames. Gaudy Ramirez also got credited for a blown save, giving up four runs on four hits and a walk in 1 1/3 innings and Luis Alvarez allowed two runs on three hits and a walk with one strikeout in 2/3 of an inning.

Adrian Ramos has turned it on lately and went 2/4 with a walk, a triple, three RBI and a run, adding his 11th stolen base of the season (but was caught for the third time). Jordan Groshans (2/5, RBI, R), Gabriel Moreno (2/5, 2B), Leonardo Jimenez (2/4, 2B, 2 RBI, R) and Warnel Valdez (2/4, R) added two hits apiece while Steward Berroa was 1/3 with a walk, two runs, a stolen base (his eighth) and was caught stealing (for the third time).

DSL Blue Jays 9, DSL Padres 6

 

The DSL Blue Jays amassed a big lead and managed to hold on as the DSL Padres chipped away in the late inning of a 9-6 victory. Alberto Rodriguez was 2/4 with a walk, a double and two runs, adding two stolen bases while Rainer Nunez was 2/5 with a double, an RBI and a run. Geyber Jimenez was 2/3 with a run and an RBI. Jesus Hernandez was on base three times, going 1/2 with two walks, an RBI and a run. Jhon Solarte was on twice, going 1/4 with a walk, an RBI, two runs and a stolen base and Miguel Hiraldo was 1/4 with a walk, an RBI, a run and a stolen base but also made two errors to give him 18 on the season. Erickvi Celedonio was 1/3 with a walk, two runs and a stolen base.

Santos Moreno had a strong start, giving up just one unearned run on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts in five innings. Christian Reyes didn’t get a batter out, walking all three he faced with one of them coming around to score. Jeison Contreras came in with the bases loaded and only allowed one of those batters to score but gave up two runs of his own (one earned) in two innings of relief, giving up three hits. William Gonzalez also provided two innings of relief, giving up two runs on two hits and two walks with two strikeouts.
