July 2, 2017 Toronto Blue Jays Minor League Report

Over the course of seven games on Sunday, the Blue Jays’ minor leaguers 3-4 in action seeing Dunedin Blue Jays, Vancouver Canadians and Bluefield Blue Jays coming away with wins.

 

Buffalo Bisons 2, Syracuse Chiefs 5

 

The struggling Buffalo Bisons are 2-17 in their last 19 games thanks to a 5-2 loss to the Syracuse Chiefs. Aaron Sanchez was on the hill for Buffalo, making a rehab start and allowed four runs on five hits and three walks with four strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings. Murphy Smith followed with 3 2/3 innings of solid ball, giving up a solo home run among three hits and striking out two. Chris Smith threw a scoreless ninth.

Roemon Fields had two hits, going 2/3 with a walk and a run. Rowdy Tellez was 1/4 with an RBI and Jon Berti and Jonathan Diaz each had a hit and a walk with Berti stealing a base.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 3, Trenton Thunder 14

 

With only three runs on 10 hits, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats were crushed by the Trenton Thunder 14-3 in the opener of their double header. Ryan McBroom became the first Fisher Cat to reach the double-digit plateau in home runs, hitting his 10th, going 2/4 with a solo blast. Gunnar Heidt was 2/2 with a walk and a run while Harold Ramirez was 2/4. Jonathan Davis walked twice, going 1/1 with two stolen bases and Derrick Loveless was 1/2 with a double, a walk and an RBI.

Francisco Rios got crushed, allowing seven runs on seven hits and three walks, striking out four in 3 2/3 innings. Dusty Isaacs also allowed three runs on two hits and three walks, striking out three over 1 2/3 innings. Danny Young allowed four runs on three hits in 2/3 of an inning. Matt Dean made his pitching debut, throwing a scoreless seventh, giving up two hits.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 3, Trenton Thunder 6

 

The misery continued for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, losing the second game of their double header with the Trenton Thunder 6-3. Kender Villegas was the starter, allowing four runs on eight hits and one walk in three innings. Justin Shafer gave up two runs on three hits and two walks in 1 2/3 innings but Jose Fernandez shut the door, allowing just one hit in his inning of work. Andrew Case finished the game, just walking one in his 1 1/3 innings.

Ryan McBroom was 2/2 with two doubles, a walk, an RBI and two runs. Andrew Guillotte was 0/0 with three walks while Jonathan Davis walked twice.

Dunedin Blue Jays 4, Daytona Tortugas 2

 

The Dunedin Blue Jays won their third in a row against the Daytona Tortugas, beating them 4-2 on Sunday. Ryan Borucki got the win, throwing 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks, striking out three. Philip Walby tossed pitched to four batters, retiring all of them and striking out two. Kirby Snead allowed three hits and struck out one on his way to his first save with Dunedin over two scoreless frames.

Josh Almonte was 2/4 with an RBI while Michael De La Cruz was 1/3 with a double, a walk and an RBI, scoring a run. Cavan Biggio also walked and singled, adding a stolen base, while Ryan HIssey was 1/4 with a double and two RBI. Juan Kelly was on base three times, going 1/2 with two walks and a run.

Roster Notes: Dominic Abbadessa was assigned to the Dunedin Blue Jays from the GCL Blue Jays.

 

Lansing Lugnuts 4, South Bend Cubs 11

 

The Lansing Lugnuts got 10 hits but they only translated into four runs in an 11-4 loss to the South Bend Cubs. Joshua Palacios had four of those hits, going 4/5 but committing his eighth error of the year. Edward Olivares was 1/5 with a home run, driving in a pair and Nash Knight was 2/5 with a run.

Yennsy Diaz tossed three innings, allowing five runs on five hits (including two home runs) and two walks with four strikeouts. Andrew Deramo threw three more innings, keeping the Lugnuts in it, allowing one run on three hits. Denis Diaz gave up another five runs in two innings to finish the game.

Vancouver Canadians 9, Eugene Emeralds 8

 

Matt Morgan

The Vancouver Canadians rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh and another three in the bottom of the eighth to come away with a 9-8 victory over the Eugene Emeralds. Catcher Matt Morgan his first home run of the year, going 2/4 with two RBI and two runs. Brock Lundquist was 2/4 with a walk, an RBI and a run and Kacy Clemens also drove in two, going 2/4 with a run and a stolen base. Mattingly Romanin also had a pair of hits, going 2/3 with a double. Bryan Lizardo was 0/4 but walked, stole a base and drove in two runs.

Jose Espada started, striking out seven batters in his 4 2/3 innings but allowed four runs (three earned) on four hits and three walks. Brayden Bouchey allowed three runs on a hit and three walks in 2 1/3 innings and William Ouellette allowed all three inherited runners to score, blowing the save, but earning the win with two innings of one-run, three-hit ball.

Bluefield Blue Jays 2, Bristol Pirates 0

 

Alvaro Galindo

The Bluefield Blue Jays could only score two runs on six hits but it was more than enough for a 2-0 win thanks to a stellar performance by the pitchers to keep the Bristol Pirates off the board. Alvaro Galindo started, tossing 4 2/3 innings and giving up four hits and three walks with four strikeouts before Tyler Olander walked one but finished the fifth inning without giving up a run. Colton Laws allowed two hits and struck out one, earning the win over two innings and Marcus Reyes and Graham Spraker each tossed a scoreless frame.

Antony Fuentes drove in both runs, going 2/3 with a sacrifice fly. Kevn Smith was 1/3 with a double and a run and Jesus Navarro was 1/3 with a run.
