Thanks to off days and a rain out in New Hampshire, the Blue Jays’ affiliates played just five games on Tuesday, winning three and getting some dominating pitching performances for Buffalo and Dunedin.

 

Buffalo Bisons 7, Norfolk Tides 3

 

Sean Reid-Foley had another strong start and Dalton Pompey made his return to Buffalo in a 7-3 win over the Norfolk Tides. Reid-Foley allowed just one hit through six innings–a solo home run–and walked two while striking out five to pick up his sixth win with the Bisons. Murphy Smith pitched two scoreless frames, walking one and striking out one and Jose Fernandez allowed two runs in the ninth, giving up three hits and a walk with a strikeout.

Pompey was 0/2 but walked twice and drove in a pair of runs while Jonathan Davis, playing center field, was 2/4 with a double and a run. Richard Urena also drove in a pair of runs, scoring once and stealing a base, going 1/4. Reese McGuire (1/3, BB, RBI, 2 R) and Darnell Sweeney (1/3, RBI, 2 R) also hit a double while Anthony Alford walked twice and scored once.Gio Urshela was 1/3 with a walk.

Roster Notes: Dalton Pompey was promoted back to Buffalo while Jason Leblebijian and Michael De La Cruz were placed on the DL. Danny Jansen was activated off the temporarily inactive list.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats, Trenton Thunder

Roster Notes: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was sent to the Dunedin Blue Jays.

 

Dunedin Blue Jays 4, Florida Fire Frogs 0

 

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was officially activated off the DL and sent to Dunedin to continue to work his way back to the higher minor leagues but it was the pitching that was the story of the day for the Dunedin Blue Jays as they shut out the Florida Fire Frogs 4-0. Roberto Osuna started the day, continuing his rehab, throwing one inning and striking out one. The D-Jays’ regular starter, Zach Logue, took over, dominating the Fire Frogs over seven innings, giving up two hits and hitting a batter with five strikeouts. Anderson Nunez took over for a 1-2-3 ninth, striking out one.

Vlad had a pair of hits, going 2/4 with a double and two RBI, scoring a run while Kevin Smith was 2/4 with a triple, an RBI, a run and a stolen base. Joshua Palacios was 2/4 with a double and a run and Santiago Espinal notched another multi-hit game with a 2/4 day.

Roster Notes: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was assigned to the Dunedin Blue Jays and Roberto Osuna’s rehab was transferred to Dunedin. Andres Sotillo was placed on the DL.

Vancouver Canadians 4, Tri-City Dust Devils 10

 

 

The Vancouver Canadians were down by four runs after two innings and they were never able to recover, losing 10-4 to the Tri-City Dust Devils on Tuesday night. Josh Winckowski didn’t get out of the second inning, allowing five runs (two earned) on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts before Justin Watts came in and stranded two runners on. He went on to threw 3 2/3 innings, giving up just one run of his own and allowing only two hits with three strikeouts. Will McAffer relieved Watts in the sixth, stranding a runner by walking one and pitching 2/3 of an inning. Connor Law finished the game, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits and a walk over two frames.

Bryan Lizardo hit his third home run of the year, going 1/4 with two RBI while Brandon Polizzi was 2/4 with a double and Jesus Severino was 2/4 with a run. Griffin Conie walked twice, scoring a run and Christopher Bec was 1/3 with a walk, a run, a stolen base and an RBI.

Bluefield Blue Jays

GCL Blue Jays 8, GCL Pirates 10

 

Despite two home runs from the GCL Blue Jays, their eight runs weren’t enough to defeat the GCL Pirates who beat them 10-8 on the back of five errors by the Blue Jays. Hector Guerrero hit a home run for the GCL Blue Jays, going 2/4 with a walk and two RBI while Addison Barger was 1/5 with his first professional dinger. Leonardo Jimenez was 3/4 with a triple, a walk, three RBI and a run and Joseph Reyes was 2/5 with an RBI and a run. Logan Warmoth, still on the rehab trail, was 1/3 with a walk and two runs while Jordan Groshans was 1/4 with a walk, an RBI and a run.

Juan Diaz started for the GCL Jays, tossing five scoreless innings, allowing five hits and a walk with four strikeouts to lower his ERA to 0.82. Luis Alvarez allowed four runs (two earned) on a hit and two walks in the sixth. Meliton Reyes allowed three runs in two innings, giving up a walk and two hits with a strikeout. Franniel Polanco pitched the ninth, giving up three runs on four hits and a walk.

Roster Notes: Eliezer Bello and Brayan Mejia were promoted to the GCL Blue Jays from the DSL Blue Jays.

DSL Blue Jays 6, DSL Padres 4

 

The DSL Blue Jays rode out a rain delay to defeat the DSL Padres 6-4. Only three players had hits as Pedro Hurtado was 1/2 with two walks, a double and two runs, Geyber Jimenez was 2/4 with a double, an RBI and a run and Hanley Acevedo was 2/4 with a triple, two RBI, a stolen base and a run.

Alexis Carmona allowed three runs on five hits and three walks with six strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings. Pedro Padilla gave up a run on two hits and two walks with a strikeout over 2/3 of an inning. Jose Brito allowed a hit and two walks with three strikeouts over two innings and Jeison Contreras picked up the save, giving up three hits and striking out one in the ninth.
