July 16 Minor League Report/July 17 Preview

The Bisons’ Liam Hendriks struck out four batters, pitching two scoreless innings for the International League in the Triple-A All-Star Game in Durham with a couple of teams laying low during the All-Star Break.

Dunedin Blue Jays 3, Jupiter Hammerheads 5

 

Taylor Cole had another excellent start for the Blue Jays, allowing just two runs (one earned) in five innings and striking out eight batters but the normally reliable Chad Girodo allowed two runs and took his first loss of the season. Emilio Guerrero had a terrific day at the plate, going 3/3 with a walk and an RBI and was the only Blue Jay to have more than one hit. Santiago Nessy and Marcus Knecht each hit a double and Knecht added a double.

Lansing Lugnuts 8, Kane County Cougars 4

 

The Lugnuts defeated the very tough Cougars, the Midwest League affiliate of the Chicago Cubs thanks to a great outing from Shane Dawson and a 15-hit attack. Dawson went six scoreless innings for the Lugnuts, allowing just two hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Roberto Espinosa was charged with three runs and Scott Silverstein gave up one of his own. David Harris continues to be hot, going 3/5 with three runs and an RBI while Derrick Loveless hit a double and a triple, driving in two. Dickie Joe Thon and Mike Reeves also had a pair of hits apiece but it was Dawel Lugo who rocked Kane County pitching with four hits including a double and a home run.

Vancouver Canadians 0, Eugene Emeralds 3

 

Despite another strong start from Miguel Castro, the Canadians couldn’t muster any offense against Eugene and were shut out on Wednesday. Castro went five innings, striking out six and allowing one run on six hits and two walks. Andrew Case was excellent too, striking out four in two scoreless innings. Yeyfry Del Rosario allowed two runs in his inning to give the Emeralds their three runs. The C’s only had four hits, including one each from Max Pentecost, Ryan McBroom, Boomer Collins (who also took a walk and stole a base) and Brenden Kalfus.

Bluefield Blue Jays 5, Greeneville Astros 3

 

The strong pitching performances continue for the Jays’ minor leaguers as Bluefield’s Jesus Tinoco went six strong innings, allowing just one run on two hits and striking out six batters. Daniel Lietz threw two scoreless while J.T. Autrey gave up two runs in just 1/3 of an inning. Austin Davis was 2/4 with two RBI and Gabriel Cenas was 2/4, scoring twice.

GCL Blue Jays: Game Postponed Due To Rain

 

DSL Blue Jays 5, DSL Braves 1

 

Despite getting only two hits, the DSL Jays took 11 walks to allow the Braves to essentially beat themselves. Bryan Lizardo, Miguel Almonte and Jesus Severino all walked twice with Rodrigo Orozco getting a hit and taking a walk, adding a pair of stolen bases and an outfield assist. Edward Olivares also had a hit, an RBI and walk. On the mound, Luis Sanchez went five scoreless innings, allowing four hits and three walks with four strikeouts while Yonardo Herdenez allowed the only run (unearned) in three innings of work in which he struck out five batters.

July 17 Preview

 

Buffalo Bisons (48-48)

 

Esmil Rogers kicks off the second half of the season in Pawtucket against the Red Sox and Steven Wright. The game is at 7:05 PM on MiLB TV.

 

New Hampshire Fisher Cats (44-52)

 

Scott Copeland goes for the Fisher Cats at home against another Red Sox affiliate, the Portland Sea Dogs at 7:05 PM on MiLB TV.

 

Dunedin Blue Jays (57-38)

 

Kendall Graveman is on the mound for the Dunedin Blue Jays as Trevor Williams goes for the Jupiter Hammerheads at 6:30 PM.

 

Lansing Lugnuts (45-49)

 

Brent Powers takes the ball for the Lugnuts against the Kane County Cougars in Lansing at 7:05 PM.

 

Vancouver Canadians (20-13)

 

The Canadians don’t have a starter listed on MiLB.com but they’ll host the Eugene Emeralds at 10:05 PM ET.

 

Bluefield Blue Jays (13-12)

 

Ryan Borucki is slated to go for the Bluefield Blue Jays at home against the Greeneville Astros at 7:05 PM at Bowen Field.

 

The GCL and DSL Blue Jays also in action today with the GCL Jays slated to make up yesterday’s rain out in a double header.
