The Blue Jays’ minor league clubs went 3-5 on Saturday with several teams struggling to get their offenses going.

 

Buffalo Bisons 1, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 2

 

The Buffalo Bisons lost again, scoring only one run or fewer for the fifth consecutive game, losing 2-1 to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. Of the Bisons’ five hits, Rowdy Tellez had the only extra-base hit, hitting a double and taking a walk. Raffi Lopez was also 1/3 with a walk.

Luis Santos was very solid, allowing a run on two hits and no walks with three strikeouts through five innings. Tim Mayza took the loss, giving up a run on two hits with two strikeouts in two innings and Dominic Leone and John Stilson each tossed a scoreless inning with two strikeouts.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 1, Portland Sea Dogs 2

 

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats opened their double header with the Portland Sea Dogs with a 2-1 loss. The offense generated just four hits including two singles from Tim Lopes and a double from Lourdes Gurriel who scored the club’s only run. Jake Thomas walked twice.

Francisco Rios only allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits and a walk in six innings, striking out five and Jose Fernandez pitched a clean seventh to finish the game.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 2, Portland Sea Dogs 3

 

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats salvaged a split in their double header with the Portland Sea Dogs, beating them 3-2 in the nightcap. After a single in the first game, Harold Ramirez was 2/3 with two doubles and an RBI in the second game while Gunnar Heidt hit his 10th home run of the year, going 1/3 with the solo blast. Matt Dean drove in a run with a double and Jonathan Davis was 1/3 with a double and a run.

John Straka made the start, tossing five innings and giving up two runs on seven hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Dusty Isaacs walked one and struck out one in the sixth and Andrew Case earned his fifth save, giving up a hit and striking out one in the seventh.

Dunedin Blue Jays 8, Bradenton Marauders 4

 

The Dunedin Blue Jays got a great game from the bats, getting 10 hits and beating the Bradenton Marauders 8-4. Max Pentecost led the way with three hits, scoring a run while Bo Bichette got his batting average up over .400 (to .429) with a 2/3 outing that including a walk, an RBI, two runs and two stolen bases. D.J. Davis walked three times and stole his 20th base of the year and Anthony Alford was 1/3 with an RBI, a run and a stolen base. Cavan Biggio was 2/4 with a walk and two RBI.

Josh DeGraaf got his third win of the season with Dunedin, going 5 2/3 innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on just two hits and two walks with six strikeouts. Ryan Cook provided 1 1/3 scoreless innings and Adonys Cardona finished the game, allowing an unearned run on three hits with three strikeouts in two innings.

Lansing Lugnuts 2, Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 4

 

The Lansing Lugnuts dropped the opener of their series with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, losing the match 4-2. Osman Gutierrez was on the mound and he allowed all four Wisconsin runs on five hits and three walks in 5 1/3 innings, despite striking out five. Connor Eller tossed 1 2/3 innings, giving up a walk and a hit with one strikeout. Denis Diaz fanned four batters in just two innings without allowing a hit and only one walk.

The Lugnuts got just three hits including a two-run double from Rodrigo Orozco.

Vancouver Canadians 3, Hillsboro Hops 4

 

The Vancouver Canadians dropped the opener in their series with the Hillsboro Hops 4-3 on Saturday. The Canadians had just three hits in front of their home crowd, getting a pair of singles and an RBI from Kevin Vicuna who also stole a base. Reggie Pruitt had the club’s other hit, going 1/3 and scoring a run.

Juan Nunez struck out six in five innings but allowed four runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks. Jake Fishman went the rest of the way, striking out five batters in four innings, giving up just two hits and keeping the Canadians in the game.

Bluefield Blue Jays 6, Danville Braves 1

 

The Bluefield Blue Jays got back into the win column, defeating the Danville Braves 6-1 on Saturday. Yorman Rodriguez continues to swing a hot bat, going 3/5 with a double and a stolen base while Kevin Smith was 2/4 with a double, a walk and two runs, adding a stolen base. Jesus Severino also had two hits, going 2/4 with a run and Chavez Young was 2/5 with a double and an RBI but also struck out three times. Ryan Noda was only 1/3 but made his presence known, walking twice and driving in two runs.

Alvaro Galindo tossed five scoreless innings, giving up four hits and a walk with two strikeouts in the start. Colton Laws allowed only a hit and a walk in two frames, striking out two while Kelyn Jose couldn’t get an out, walking all three batters he faced and getting charged with the Braves’ only run. Joe DiBenedetto came in with the bases loaded and no one on in the eighth, allowing just one of the inherited runners from Jose to score, allowing two hits and a walk with three strikeouts in earning his first pro save.

GCL Blue Jays 2, GCL Phillies 3

 

The GCL Blue Jays lost again to the GCL Phillies, going down 3-2. Despite getting twice as many hits (10) as the Phillies, the Blue Jays also made twice as many errors (4) in the tough loss. Dominic Abbadessa had a pair of hits, going 2/5 with a run and a stolen base and Brandon Grudzielanek, the nephew of former big leaguer Mark Grudzielanek, was 2/3 with a run in his first game after signing as a non-drafted free agent. Hagen Danner was 1/3 with a double and an RBI.

Joi Concepcion started and allowed two runs (both unearned) on just two hits and two walks in four innings with two strikeouts. Connor Law went two scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk with one strikeout and Justin Watts took the loss, allowing a run on two hits and a walk in two innings. Jonathan Cheshire struck out two in the ninth.

Player of the Game: Brandon Grudzielanek and Dominic Abbadessa
