With the Buffalo Bisons and New Hampshire Fisher Cats back in action following the All-Star Break, the Blue Jays had all of their minor league teams in action, going 7-1 on Thursday.

 

Buffalo Bisons 4, Lehigh Valley IronPigs 3

The Buffalo Bisons took a tie game into the 10th inning and beat the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 4-3 thanks to a sacrifice fly from Anthony Alford. The Bisons had just six hits including doubles from Richard Urena (1/5, R) and Dwight Smith Jr. (1/5) while TIm Lopes was 1/4 with a double and a run. Reese McGuire was 1/3 with a walk.

Sean Reid-Foley came back in his first game after the All-Star Break, giving up three runs on three hits and four walks with nine strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings. Justin Shafer finished the sixth, striking out one and Craig Breslow provided two scoreless innings, also striking out one. Brandon Cumpton got his first Bisons win, striking out two in the ninth and Jose Fernandez got the save, striking out one in the 10th.

Roster Notes: Jonathan Davis was promoted to the Buffalo Bisons from New Hampshire while Andrew Guillotte was sent back to New Hampshire. Dalton Pompey was also sent to New Hampshire.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 4, Portland Sea Dogs 5

 

Max Pentecost

Four runs in the first inning wasn’t enough to hold off the Portland Sea Dogs as they fell in their first game following the All-Star Break, 5-4. Harold Ramirez was 3/4 with a double, pushing his batting average to .310 and Max Pentecost was 2/4 with a home run and three RBI. Dalton Pompey also had two hits, taking a walk and scoring a run.

Josh DeGraaf started and allowed three runs, giving up eight hits and a walk with five strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings. Kirby Snead finished the sixth, walking four batters and giving up two runs (one earned) with one strikeout. Dusty Isaacs finished the game, allowing a hit and striking out two in two innings.

Dunedin Blue Jays 3, Clearwater Threshers 0

 

Three out of four ain’t bad, right? The Dunedin Blue Jays completed their series win over the Clearwater Threshers by shutting them out for the third time in the four-game series, beating them 3-0 on Thursday. Jaime Garcia was rehabbing and pitched a scoreless first inning, striking out two. Zach Logue took over for six more innings, striking out seven and giving up seven hits without any walks. Jake Fishman pitched a perfect eighth and Jackson McClelland struck out two in the ninth, earning his sixth save.

Kevin Smith had a great all-around game, going 2/4 with a home run and a stolen base while Riley Adams was 3/4 with a double and a run. Kacy Clemens was 2/4 with an RBI and Ivan Castillo was 2/4 with an RBI.

Lansing Lugnuts 11, Burlington Bees 8

 

Ryan Noda

The Lansing Lugnuts kept rolling on Thursday night, beating the Burlington Bees by an 11-8 score. Chavez Young went deep for the Lugnuts, driving in four runs with his grand slam in the fifth inning, going 1/5. Ryan Noda was on base four times, going 2/3 with two doubles, two walks and an RBI, scoring three times. Norberto Obeso was 2/4 with a walk, two RBI and a run, adding two stolen bases and Kevin Vicuna was 2/4 with a walk and three runs. Reggie Pruitt was 1/3 with a walk and a run, throwing out a runner on the bases but was caught stealing.

Jordan Barrett made his Lansing debut, giving up four runs on five hits (including a home run) with three walks and a strikeout in three innings. Yunior Hinojosa allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits and a walk before Brayden Bouchey struck out five in three innings, giving up a run on two hits (including a solo home run). Dany Jimenez finished the game, giving up another solo home run with one strikeout in the ninth.

Vancouver Canadians 7, Boise Hawks 1

 

While they had 16 hits, the Vancouver Canadians found that the seven runs they scored were plenty against the Boise Hawks, defeating them 7-1. Otto Lopez continues to hit, going 3/5 with a home run and three RBI while Griffin Conine was 3/5 with two runs. Sterling Guzman had two doubles and a walk and Hunter Steinmetz was 2/4 with a double and a triple, scoring twice. Tanner Kirwer also continues to be hot, going 2/5 with a triple, an RBI and a run and Yorman Rodriguez was 2/5 with an RBI. Christopher Bec was 2/4 with a walk and two stolen bases.

Elio Silva went four innings, giving up a run on four hits and a walk with two strikeouts and Marcus Reyes picked up the win, allowing just two hits in four innings, striking out two. Cobi Johnson finished the game, striking out one in the ninth.

Bluefield Blue Jays 5, Princeton Rays 3

 

Rather than scoring a bunch of runs in the first inning as has become their habit, the Bluefield Blue Jays slowly accumulated a 5-1 lead over the Princeton Rays and hung on for a 5-3 win. Nathanael Perez had a strong game for the Bluefield Blue Jays, allowing just one run on four hits and two walks with seven strikeouts over six innings. Andy McGuire pitched again and struck out two in the seventh before Brad Wilson took over, allowing two runs on two hits and a walk in 1 1/3 innings. Sean Rackoski came in in the ninth with two runners on and allowed both to score but held the Rays at bay to earn the save in 2/3 of an inning with one strikeout.

Davis Schneider hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning and added a sacrifice fly and a walk, going 1/2 with three RBI. Rafael Lantigua (2/3, R, BB, CS), Cal Stevenson (2/5, R) and Patrick Morris (2/4, 2B, R) had two hits apiece and Dominic Abbadessa (1/5, RBI) and D.J. Neal (1/5, RBI) each drove in a run.

GCL Blue Jays 2, GCL Tigers East 1

 

Rafael Monsion gave up just one run and the bullpen made it stick as the GCL Blue Jays defeated the GCL Tigers East 2-1. Monsion went five frames, giving up a run on eight hits and a walk with seven strikeouts before turning it over to Meliton Reyes who gave up two hits over two innings, striking out two. Franniel Polanco got the save, striking out two and giving up two hits over two innings.

Gabriel Moreno and Jordan Groshans were each 2/4 with a double and Hector Guerrero was 2/3. Warnel Valdez was 1/3 with a triple and a run and Steward Berroa was 1/4 with a run, an RBI and a stolen base.

DSL Blue Jays 4, DSL White Sox 1

 

Righty Ronald Govea dropped his ERA further as the DSL Blue Jays defeated the DSL White Sox 4-1 on Thursday. Govea tossed five innings, allowing on unearned run on three hits and two walks with two strikeouts to pick up the win and Adrian Hernandez finished with four scoreless frames, striking out five and walking one without allowing a hit.

On the offensive side, Rainer Nunez was up to the challenge of the White Sox, going 2/4 with a double and a solo home run. Erickvi Celedonio drove in two, going 1/4 and Miguel Hiraldo was 1/3 with a walk and a stolen base and Hanley Acevedo hit a double.
