July 1, 2017 Toronto Blue Jays Minor League Report

Rain suspended a couple of games at the lowest levels of the Blue Jays’ minor league system and the organization was 2-4 otherwise on Canada Day around the minor leagues.

 

Buffalo Bisons 0, Syracuse Chiefs 5

 

The struggling Buffalo Bisons (36-46) failed to score on Canada Day, losing 5-0 to the Syracuse Chiefs. Facing Edwin Jackson, the Bisons only had five hits including a pair from Shane Opitz who was 2/4. Jon Berti and Roemon Fields were each 1/3 with a walk and a stolen base.

Cesar Valdez was on the mound and allowing four runs (three earned) on nine hits and two walks iwth three strikeouts over six innings. Luis Santos tossed the final three frames giving up one unearned run on four hits and a walk with four strikeouts.

Player of the Game: None

Roster Notes: Christian Lopes was placed on the 7-day DL retroactive to June 29. Aaron Sanchez was sent to Buffalo for a rehab start and Lucas Harrell was recalled by the Blue Jays.

 

 

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 4, Trenton Thunder 13

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats had their game mercifully completed early due to rain in the top of the sixth, losing 13-4 to the Trenton Thunder. Conner Greene ran into trouble, allowing nine runs (eight earned) on five hits and eight walks in four innings, striking out two and taking the loss. Alonzo Gonzalez inherited the bases loaded and allowed all three runs to score, and gave up four of his own (two earned) in the fifth. Jose Fernandez got off to a rough start in the sixth, allowing a hit and two walks before the game was called.

Richard Urena and Danny Jansen were both 2/3 with a double and an RBI and Urena scored twice while Jansen scored just one time. Tim Lopes was 1/2 with a walk, an RBI and a stolen base.

Dunedin Blue Jays 12, Daytona Tortugas 4

 

Cavan Biggio

The Dunedin Blue Jays made it two in a row, adding 12 more runs to the nine they scored on Thursday in a 12-4 drubbing of the Daytona Tortugas. Five players had two hits each with Cavan Biggio going deep with his sixth home run of the year, adding a double, a walk, three runs and three RBI. Juan Kelly was 2/4 with a walk, an RBI and a run while Dalton Pompey was 2/5 with a triple, two RBI and two runs. Michael De La Cruz was 2/4 with a double, a walk, two RBI and a run while Ryan Hissey, playing first base, was 2/3 with a walk and two runs.

Tayler Saucedo started the game, giving up three runs on two hits and three walks with two strikeouts in three innings. Ryan Cook got the win for throwing three scoreless frames, allowing two hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Tom Robson allowed a run over two innings, with two strikeouts and Zach Jackson struck out a pair on a scoreless ninth.

Lansing Lugnuts 4, South Bend Cubs 5

 

The Lansing Lugnuts (40-36) fell short, losing 5-4 to the South Bend Cubs. Mitch Nay had a monster game, going 4/5 with a double, two singles and a home run, driving in three and scoring twice. Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. was 1/2 but walked three times and scored once. Andres Sotillo was 3/4 with a double and Nash Knight was 2/4 with a double, a walk and an RBI.

Mike Ellenbest provided 5 2/3 innings of three-run ball, giving up seven hits and three walks with four strikeouts. Connor Eller took the loss, allowing another two runs on a two-run home run (among four hits) with three strikeouts over 2 1/3 innings.

Vancouver Canadians 2, Eugene Emeralds 5

 

Deiferson Barreto

The Vancouver Canadians dropped their second game in a row, 5-2 to the Eugene Emeralds. The Cs could only score twice despite 10 hits with four players having multi-hit games. Cullen Large was 2/5 with two doubles out of the leadoff spot and Bryan Lizardo was 2/5 with a double as the DH. Deiferson Barreto was 2/4 with a run and Mattingly Romanin was 2/4 with a double and two RBI. Riley Adams was 1/4 with a double and a walk.

Dany Jimenez allowed three runs on two hits and two walks with four strikeouts in four-plus innings. Bobby Eveld allowed his two inherited runners to score and gave up two more runs in the fifth while Matt Shannon tossed a scoreless sixth. Chris Hall struck out four in two innings of relief, giving up two hits and a walk and Grayson Huffman allowed just a hit in the ninth, striking out one.

Bluefield Blue Jays 2, Bristol Pirates 1

 

The Bluefield Blue Jays evened their record by beating the Bristol Pirates 2-1. Ryan Noda had another huge game, hitting his third home run and adding a single and a triple, driving in both runs. The Blue Jays had just two other hits, both singles, one from Yorman Rodriguez and another from Jesus Navarro.

Elio Silva allowed a run on three hits and struck out five in his season debut. Zach Logue struck out three in his two innings of work while Yonardo Herdenez tossed a scoreless eighth, giving up a hit and Ty Tice struck out two in an inning, earning the save.

Roster Notes: Marcus Reyes was promoted to Bluefield from the GCL Blue Jays.

 

GCL Blue Jays, GCL Tigers East

 

Game suspended due to rain. Tigers East were winning 2-0 after three innings. Game will be completed July 17.

 

 

DSL Blue Jays, DSL White Sox

 

Game suspended due to rain. The White Sox were winning 1-0 in the second inning.
