Dunedin Comeback Falls Short, Eliminated from Playoffs

The Dunedin Blue Jays made a valiant attempt at a comeback but, in the end, it wasn’t enough and the D-Jays’ season ended in a 9-8 loss to the Tampa Yankees and a 2-1 series loss.

In a series that had two extra-inning games (totaling 10 extra innings between the two), the final game was ultimately decided by one run. With a tired bullpen from all of the extra innings, it’s possible that the Blue Jays were hoping to get more out of starter Connor Fisk who gave up three runs over the first five innings of the game. After the Blue Jays scored four runs in the top of the sixth to go up 6-3, Fisk gave up two singles and a home run, followed a walk, a single and a home run for six quick runs to the first six batters of the inning before he was lifted for Dusty Isaacs. Fisk gave up all nine runs in five-plus innings and had the Blue Jays in a 9-6 hole after the sixth inning.

Isaacs did a fantastic job taking over for Fisk, throwing the final three innings of the game and keeping the Blue Jays in the running by limiting the Yankees to just two walks (and no hits).

The offense was in full flight, staging a comeback with a run in the seventh and a run in the ninth but it just wasn’t enough to defeat the Yankees, despite out-hitting them 14 to nine. Jorge Flores had three hits and two RBI while Ryan McBroom hit a home run, going 2/5 with two runs. Mike Reeves also drove in two, going 1/5 wtih a double. Jonathan Davis finishes the club’s MVP for the series, going 2/4 with a double, a walk, a run and an RBI while hitting .467 in the three-game series. John La Prise was 2/5 with a double and two runs and Max Pentecost was 2/5 with a double and two RBI.

Player of the Game: Ryan McBroom and Jorge Flores
