Draft Pick Signing Update

2014-Draft1

Whether it’s a new trend or not, it seems like teams are really signing players quickly in 2014. We have reports of the Blue Jays signing several of their draft picks already as well as a few undrafted free agents getting inked. For this information in chart form, I highly suggest using the Bluebird Banter Draft Signing Table or the one at SB Nation that tracks all of MLB.

The biggest name to sign is 2nd round pick Sean Reid-Foley, the highly-regarding high school pitcher out of Jacksonville, Florida who, reportedly, signed for exactly slot value: $1,128,800.

There are also reports that the Blue Jays have signed their fourth round pick, Matt Morgan, although the amount has not been released, their fifth round pick, OF Lane Thomas, for more than double his slot value at $750,000 (slot was $343,000), eighth round pick, Florida righty Justin Shafer (bonus also undisclosed).

In later rounds, 18th rounder RHP Dusty Isaacs from Georgia Tech, 19th rounder, OF Cliff Brantley of Adelphi Univeristy, and 20th rounder, SS Aaron Attaway of Western Carolina University, have all signed.

The Blue Jays have also signed a few undrafted free agents including RHP Jonathon Wandling of the University of Southern Indiana, OF Austin Davis of Southeastern University, and LHP Joe Claver of Illinois State.

Players who have indicated that they will sign with the Blue Jays include third round pick lefty Nick Wells, 10th rounder Jordan Romano, 13th rounder Gunnar Heidt, 14th rounder Chase Mallard and 15th rounder Ryan McBroom. 22nd rounder Todd Isaacs (no relation to Dusty Isaacs) has also indicated that he’ll sign after coming from Nassau, Bahamas to attend high school at the American Heritage High School in Florida.
