And we’re back with another update on how our Blue Jays minor leaguers are doing in their winter and fall league action!

 

 

Arizona Fall League

 

The AFL wrapped up with the Peoria Javelinas (the club the Blue Jays’ players were assigned to) winning the whole thing with Jonathan Davis, Lourdes Gurriel and T.J. Zeuch taking leading roles in the championship. Davis was 1/3 with three runs, a triple, and a stolen base while Gurriel was 1/3 with a double and an RBI. T.J. Zeuch got the start and scattered eight hits over 5 2/3 innings, allowing just two runs without walking anyone and striking out two.

 

Jonathan Davis finished off his season strong, going 3/4 in his final game with a walk, two RBI and three stolen bases, finishing his fall season off with a .295/.389/.410 slash line, hitting six doubles and one home run while stealing seven bases in eight opportunities.

Lourdes Gurriel finished with a .291/.309/.494 slash line hitting seven doubles and three home runs, showing plenty of power but only walking once.

Max Pentecost finished his season with an arm injury, playing in one game (November 7) in the final couple of weeks of action. He hit just .195/.267/.293 in 11 games, hitting one double and one home run while striking out 17 times in 41 at bats and walking just four times.

Righty Andrew Case finished his impressive fall run by giving up just one unearned run over 10 innings, posting a 0.00 ERA and a WHIP under 1.00 by allowing just eight hits and one walk with six strikeouts.

Jackson McClelland finished his AFL season with a 7.20 ERA and 1.50 WHIP, tossing 10 innings and surrendering eight runs on 13 hits and two walks with eight strikeouts.

Danny Young had a 16.43 ERA for his season, adding a 3.13 WHIP, giving up 15 runs (14 earned) on 21 hits and three walks with seven strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings.

T.J. Zeuch finished with a 3.44 ERA and 0.98 WHIP over 18 1/3 innings (not counting the championship game), striking out 15 and walking only four in a successful fall season.

 

 

LIDOM (Dominican Winter League)

The Dominican Winter League is a legendary league that has hosted many Blue Jays stars over the years. This year, Vlad got to make his debut while various other players in the organization joined a number of teams.

 

Michael De La Cruz has only appeared in one game in the Dominican League since his debut and none since November 11. He is 1/3 with a solo home run.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. finished his stint in the Dominican Winter League on November 22 and finished in a slump, going 5/32 (.156) in his last 10 games. He hit .211/.276/.278 overall with two doubles and two triples in 90 at bats.

Teoscar Hernandez has been out of the Dominican Winter League since November 19 and has hit .195/.271/.287 with three doubles, a triple and a home run and was caught stealing three out of four times.

Jason Leblebijian hasn’t played since our last update and is hitting .143/.200/.143 with two singles in 14 at bats. Usually when a player doesn’t play for a while in the winter leagues, he’s suffered an injury and has gone home. I’m not sure what the case is for Leblebijian.

Reese McGuire completed his Dominican Winter League time on November 19 with a 1/3 game, drawing two walks. McGuire boasted a .283/.411/.283 slash line with 10 walks and 15 strikeouts in 46 at bats despite not hitting any extra-base hits.

Richard Urena hasn’t played since November 15 and hit .190/.227/.265 with a double, a triple and a home run in 63 at bats.

Lefty Jose Fernandez worked up until November 22 in LIDOM, tossing 9 2/3 innings with a 3.72 ERA and 1.24 WHIP, striking out eight and walking five.

Luis Santos pitched up until November 27, working out of the bullpen to the tune of a 3.55 ERA and 0.95 WHIP over 12 2/3 innings, striking out six and walking two.

 

LVBP (Venezuelan Winter League)

 

Like the Dominican Winter League, the Venezuelan league has a long history although it will likely not be the place many American players go to get winter reps in due to complicated security issues there.

 

Yeltsin Gudino has seen action as recently as December 3 and is hitting .200 with a .429 OBP with two singles in 10 at bats, but he has walked four times and struck out four times.

Nicolas Medina, 17, hasn’t pitched since November 26 but has amassed nine innings over 15 outings and has a 5.00 ERA and 1.44 WHIP with four strikeouts and three walks.

 

LMP (Mexican Winter League)

 

Norberto Obeso has 16 at bats over 10 games and is 1/10 with two walks and four strikeouts.

Pitcher Francisco Rios hasn’t pitched since November 12 and has a 4.76 ERA with six walks and three strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings, allowing six hits.

 

Australian Baseball League (ABL)

 

The Blue Jays have traditionally sent between three and five players to the Canberra Cavalry of the Australian Baseball League which is now trying to make a go of it without the financial help of Major League Baseball.

 

Torontonian Connor Panas is tearing the ABL up. Through his first 12 games with the Cavalry, he is hitting .273/.353/.591 with three doubles, a triple and three home runs in just 44 at bats.

Lefty Daniel Lietz has made four appearances for Canberra and has allowed five earned runs in 5 2/3 innings, but his strikeout to walk ratio is excellent with eight strikeouts and just two walks (including one intentional one).

Tayler Saucedo pitched for the first time on December 2, allowing a hit and a walk in 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief while striking out one.
