Blue Jays Sign 24 Draftees

On Friday, the Blue Jays announced that they’ve signed 24 of their 41 draftees in the 2016 draft, including nine of 11 players in the first 10 rounds.

Officially, first rounder T.J. Zeuch signed for about $110,000 below slot value (signing for $2.175 million) while the two second rounders, J.B. Woodman and Bo Bichette (son of former major leaguer Dante Bichette) signed for $975,000 ($149,000 below slot) and $1,100,000 ($121,400 above slot) respectively.

While third-rounder Zach Jackson hasn’t officially signed, he has reportedly agreed to terms, and it’s reported to be about $45,000 under the $585,100 slot value.

 

 

Fourth-rounder Josh Palacios signed for slot value and fifth-rounder Cavan Biggio, son of former major leaguer Craig Biggio, signed for $28,100 under the $328,100 slot value. The Blue Jays went over slot to sign sixth-rounder D.J. Daniels for $300,000 and got seventh-round pick Andy Ravel for slot. To round out the top 10, the Jays picked up ninth-round pick Kyle Weatherly for $250,000 which is $75,300 over slot.

 

The Jays signed a whole bunch of other picks including 11th-round pick Travis Hosterman for $400,000 ($300,000 over the signing bonus allowed after the 10th round without counting against the cap). Other signees: Ridge Smith (rd. 12), Christopher Hall (14), Bradley Jones (18), Angel Alicea (20), Mitch McKown (21), Connor Eller (22), Mike Ellenbest (24), Ryan Gold (27), Andrew Deramo (29), Jake Fishman (30), David Jacob (32), Brayden Bouchey (33), Jared Carkuff (35) and Luke Gillingham (37).
