August 8, 2021 Toronto Blue Jays Minor League Report

The Toronto Blue Jays’ minor league affiliates split their day with two wins and two losses, getting some outstanding pitching in Florida.

Buffalo Bisons 9, Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs (PHI) 3

The Buffalo Bisons (49-32) beat the Lehigh Valley IronPigs by the exact same score on Sunday as they did Saturday, 9-3.

While the Bisons had some big home runs on Saturday, they didn’t go deep once on Sunday, but spread the offense around. Richard Urena was 2/4 with an RBI and two runs and Cullen Large was 2/5 with an RBI and two runs, hitting a double. Otto Lopez was 2/4 with a triple, an RBI and two runs and Nash Knight was 2/3 with a double, a walk, three RBI and a run. Rodrigo Vigil was 2/5 with an RBI and Logan Warmoth was 1/4 with two RBI. Forrest Wall was 1/4 but walked twice and stolen three bases, scoring a run. Tyler White was 1/4 with two walks and a run and Kevin Smith was 0/3 but walked and stole a base.

Starter Thomas Hatch got the win, striking out nine over six innings, giving up three runs on four hits (one HR) and a walk. Hobie Harris struck out one in the seventh and Jacob Barnes gave up two hits in the eighth. Bryan Baker didn’t allow a hit or a walk in the ninth.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 5, Hartford Yard Goats (COL) 10

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats (38-42) closed out their series with the Hartford Yard Goats, getting doubled up 10-5.

Canadian Demi Orimoloye had a big game, going 3/4 with a solo home run while LJ Talley also went deep, going 2/4 with a double, two RBI and a run. Samad Taylor also had two extra-base hits, going 2/4 with a double, a triple, a walk, two runs and a stolen base. Vinny Capra was 1/4 with two RBI and Jordan Groshans was 1/3 with a double, a walk and a run.

Starter Reilly Hovis allowed four runs on seven hits (two HR), striking out three in five innings and Graham Spraker allowed another run on a hit and a walk with one strikeout. Fitz Stadler threw a scorleess sixth and Emerson Jimenez got into trouble, givin gup five runs (four earned) on four hits and two hit batters without getting an out. Connor Law pitched the final two innings, allowing a hit and allowing only one of his three inherited runners to score.

Vancouver Canadians 5, Hillsboro Hops (ARI) 7

The Vancouver Canadians (37-47) closed out their series with the Hillsboro Hops with a 7-5 loss.

Luis De Los Santos had a big game, along with Zac Cook, with each hitting a home run. De Los Santos was 2/4 with a solo blast and Cook added a double, going 2/4 with two runs and an RBI. Andres Guerra was 3/4 and Eric Rivera was 1/4 with a run. Orelvis Martinez was 1/3 with a walk and an RBI while Rafael Lantigua was 1/4 with a run and Davis Schneider was 1/2 with a walk and an RBI.

Starting was 2020 draftee CJ Van Eyk who allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits (one HR) with a walk and four strikeouts in four innings. Will McAaffer was tagged for two runs on three hits with a walk and three strikeouts over two innings and Hagen Danner threw two scoreless innings, giving up three hits but striking out two. Cobi Johnson finished it, allowing two runs in the ninth on two hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

Dunedin Blue Jays 3, Fort Myers Mighty Mussels (MIN) 0

The Dunedin Blue Jays (37-46) pitchers were in fine form, holding the Fort Myers Mighty Mussles to just one hit in a 3-0 victory.

Key to the one hitter was Naswell Paulino who started and threw six hitless innings, walking just two and striking out eight for the win. Justin Kelly allowed the only hit, striking out two in the seventh and Harry Rutkowski walked one and struck out one in the eighth. Matt Svanwon walked one and struck out two in the ninth for his second save.

Addison Barger had two hits including his 13th home run of the year, going 2/4 with an RBI and two runs. Riley Tirotta had two hits, going 2/3 with a walk and an RBI and Justin Ammons was 2/4 with a stolen base and a run. Steward Berroa was 1/4 with a walk, a stolen base and an RBI and Tanner Morris was 1/4 with a double.
