August 7 Minor League Report/August 8 Preview

The Jays lost a close one to the Orioles but J.A. Happ continues his renaissance. And now for the minor league report!

 

 

Buffalo Bisons 5, Durham Bulls 1

 

In the first game of the doubleheader, Buffalo got some great pitching from the whole staff with Brad Mills leaving the game after 2 2/3 innings, having allowed just one hit and having struck out five. Kyle Drabek earned the win, allowing a run over 2 1/3 innings but he only gave up two hits. Steve Delabar struck out the side in the sixth and Sergio Santos picked up two Ks in the seventh. With 11 hits, the Bisons picked up the five runs for the win. Adron Chambers was 2/4 with an RBI, Kevin Pillar was 2/3 with a double and an RBI while Cole Gillespie was 2/3 with a double, two runs scored and a walk. Also getting on base three times was Andy LaRoche who was 1/2 with a double, two walks and two RBI.

Buffalo Bisons 0, Durham Bulls 1

 

Kendall Graveman started game two for the Buffalo Bisons, playing a “home” game in Durham as a makeup of a rained out match back in July. Graveman made just one mistake, giving up a home run to Nick Franklin and allowing the one run on three hits and two walks with four strikeouts. The Bisons had only two hits, one from Darin Mastroianni and one from Kevin Pillar in the bottom of the seventh.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 2, Erie Sea Wolves 3

 

It was another pitchers duel for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats but Dustin Antolin finally let the dam break in the 13th inning as the Sea Wolves got a walk-off win. Austin Bibens-Dirkx struck out five over six innings, allowing only one unearned run on three hits and a walk. Mickey Storey surrendered another run over two innings and Richard Bleier (just activated off the DL) and Randy Boone threw three innings combined. The offense had 11 hits including three from Jorge Flores (a.k.a. Mighty Mouse) while Andy Burns was 2/6 and Michael Crouse was 2/6 with a double and two RBI.

Roster Notes: Lefty reliever Richard Bleier was activated off the DL while LHP John Anderson was placed on the DL.

Dunedin Blue Jays 4, Lakeland Flying Tigers 3

 

Jesse Hernandez got the start for the Blue Jays and was pretty decent, allowing just three runs over 6 1/3 innings. Justin Jackson, Tony Davis and Arik Sikula pitched in relief with Davis and Sikula each striking out the side. Pierce Rankin was 2/3 with a double and a walk while Peter Mooney made the most of his only hit, driving in two.

Lansing Lugnuts 6, West Michigan Whitecaps 14

 

In a slugfest in Lansing, the Lugnuts were overwhelmed by the Whitecaps’ offense. Brent powers allowed six of the runs but three were unearned. Alonzo Gonzalez was tagged for seven runs (six earned) including two home runs over three innings and Francisco Gracesqui allowed a run over his inning of work. David Harris had two hits while Daniel Klein was 1/3 with a walk and his first home run of the season.

Vancouver Canadians 8, Tri-City Dust Devils 6

 

Franklin Barreto had another huge game for the Canadians, going 4/5 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI (and no errors) while Ryan McBroom drove in a pair with two hits. Zak Wasilewski had another rough start, allowing four runs on nine hits and two walks in five innings and Andrew Case struck out three batters, pitching 1 1/3 innings to earn his second save.

Bluefield Blue Jays 2, Princeton Rays 4

 

Jesus Tinoco allowed three runs over five innings and Jordan Romano allowed a run over his three innings of work. Chase Wellbrock struck out two in his inning and lowered his ERA to 0.51 on the season. Rowdy Tellez continues to swing a hot bat, going 2/2 with a double, a walk and two RBI.

GCL Blue Jays 4, GCL Astros 7

 

Adam Lind had a rehab game and went 2/2 with two doubles before making way for Deiferson Barreto. Angel Gomez also had two hits and Freddy Rodriguez drove in two runs. On the mound, Daniel Rodriguez allowed five runs (although only two were earned) and Neil Wagner gave up a solo home run to the only batter he pitched to in his rehab outing. The best pitcher of the game for the Blue Jays was Canadian Sean Ratcliffe who went two scoreless innings.

DSL Blue Jays 1, DSL Rangers2 5

 

Osman Gutierrez had the best outing of the Blue Jays pitchers, going 3 1/3 innings and allowing just three hits and two walks with five strikeouts. The club only had four hits including a double from Ronniel Demorizi.

August 8 Preview

 

Buffalo Bisons (62-56)

 

With the double header out of the way, Sean Nolin takes the hill tonight to face the Durham Bulls at 7:05 PM on MiLB TV. Since returning from injury, Nolin hasn’t allowed an earned run over 11 innings with Buffalo.

 

New Hampshire Fisher Cats (57-61)

 

The Fisher Cats move on to Akron on their western road trip and Taylor Cole gets the start. He’ll look to have a better outing than his first outing for the Fisher Cats (which you can read about here) at 7:05 PM on MiLB TV.

 

Dunedin Blue Jays (68-48)

 

Righty Ben White is scheduled to make the start in Lakeland against the Flying Tigers at 7:11 PM.

 

Lansing Lugnuts (52-62)

 

Chase De Jong starts for the Lansing Lugnuts against the West Michigan Whitecaps at home at 7:05 PM ET.

 

Vancouver Canadians (30-20)

 

Chase Mallard takes the ball for the Vancouver Canadians as they continue their series on the road against the Tri-City Dust Devils at 10:15 PM ET.

Bluefield Blue Jays (22-24)

 

Lefty Evan Smith is scheduled to start for the Bluefield Blue Jays at home against the Princeton Rays at 7:05 PM.

 

The GCL and DSL Blue Jays are also both in action today.
