August 6 Minor League Report/August 7 Preview

Scott Copeland

The Blue Jays got a great performance by Drew Hutchison and beat the Baltimore Orioles to tie the series at one game apiece. In other news, it appears that Daniel Norris is moving up to Buffalo. I was at his last start in New Hampshire and I’ll be posting my observations about his outing later today.

Buffalo Bisons: Scheduled Off Day

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 3, Erie Sea Wolves 1

Scott Copeland continues a quietly strong season. Copeland followed his complete-game (seven-inning) outing on Friday with an eight-inning, one-run game. Andy Burns had a pair of doubles and an RBI while Cory Aldridge continues to hit well, going 2/4 with a double and an RBI (catch the next podcast, coming soon, for an interview with Aldridge).

Dunedin Blue Jays 3, Lakeland Flying Tigers 5

Roberto Osuna made another appearance coming back from Tommy John but, from the looks of it, wasn’t very sharp, walking three batters and allowing four hits and four runs in  2/3 innings. Efrain Nieves was strong in relief, going 3 2/3 innings of scoreless ball and Wil Browning allowed the final run in 1 2/3 innings. Christian Lopes had another outstanding game, going 3/5 with a home run, an RBI and two runs scored. Shane Opitz also had a pair of singles and Dwight Smith, Jr. returned to the lineup after a stint on the DL with a double and a walk.

Lansing Lugnuts 7, Fort Wayne TinCaps 0

Starlyn Suriel was practically unhittable as he faced the Fort Wayne TinCaps in an afternoon battle. Suriel gave up his only hit of his outing in the fifth inning and didn’t walk a man, striking out four through six innings. Scott Silverstein got into some trouble, facing just three batters and giving up two hits but Brady Dragmire picked him up, stranding both runners and adding another scoreless inning. Derrick Loveless and Mitch Nay were both 2/5 with a double. Loveless drove in three runs and scored once. David Harris had three hits including a triple and Daniel Klein was 2/3 with a walk and an RBI.

Vancouver Canadians: Scheduled Off Day

Bluefield Blue Jays: Scheduled Off Day

GCL Blue Jays 6, GCL Yankees2 1

The GCL Jays finally picked up another win (moving to 13-27 on the season) and got a great outing from Grayson Huffman who went four hitless innings (allowing three walks) with three strikeouts. Brandon Hinkle threw three innings, allowing one run on two hits and a walk and struck out four to earn the victory while Francisco Diaz threw two hitless innings, walking two. Lane Thomas led the way with a pair of hits and Juan Kelly was 2/3 with a walk and two RBI.

Player of the Game: Juan Kelly and Grayson Huffman

DSL Blue Jays 6, DSL Rangers2 10

As has been the case lately for the Blue Jays, there’s not much positive to talk about with the pitching although Wilmin Lara threw two scoreless innings, allowing a hit and a walk while striking out three. Enmanuel Moreta had a big game, going 3/5 with two doubles and two RBI and Jesus Severino had the only other multi-hit game, going 2/5. Rodrigo Orozco was 1/3 with two walks and a run.

Player of the Game: Enmanuel Moreta

August 7 Preview

Buffalo Bisons (61-55)

The Bisons move on to Durham to face the Bulls on Thursday at 6:05 PM with a TBD starter. While Daniel Norris has been promoted, his day to pitch would be Friday and will not be likely to start. The Bisons and Bulls play a double header so there will be lots of action to catch on MiLB TV.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats (57-60)

As the Fisher Cats close in on the .500 mark, they continue their series against the Erie Sea Wolves at 7:05 PM on MiLB TV. Their starter is unannounced but it could very well be Taylor Cole who made his Double-A debut on Saturday. With the promotion of Daniel Norris, Cole could be pushed back to Friday and Austin Bibens-Dirkx could take today’s start.

Dunedin Blue Jays (67-48)

Jesse Hernandez is scheduled to make the start in Lakeland against the Flying Tigers at 6:30 PM.

Lansing Lugnuts (52-62)

Brent Powers starts for the Lansing Lugnuts against the West Michigan Whitecaps at home at 7:05 PM ET.

Vancouver Canadians (30-20)

As the Vancouver Canadians start up the second half of the season, they have an undetermined starter going on the road against the Tri-City Dust Devils at 10:15 PM ET.

Bluefield Blue Jays (22-24)

Jesus Tinoco is scheduled to start for the Bluefield Blue Jays at home against the Princeton Rays at 7:05 PM.

The GCL and DSL Blue Jays are also both in action today.
