With rain tearing through the Gulf Coast and washing out both the Dunedin Blue Jays and Gulf Coast League Blue Jays, there were only five games on the schedule for the Jays’ minor leaguers and the club’s went 3-2 despite a horrid outing for the Buffalo Bisons’ pitching staff.

 

Buffalo Bisons 2, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 14

 

The Buffalo Bisons threw the kitchen sink out on the mound and, to quote John Lott, it leaked, as the Bisons gave up 14 runs on 18 hits to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders in a 14-2 loss. Seven pitchers in all made it to the rubber at Coca-Cola Field with Scott Diamond getting chased after four batters in the third (without retiring any) and gave up eight runs on nine hits and two walks with two strikeouts in two-plus innings. Chad Girodo allowed both inherited runners to score and gave up two more on three hits (including a home run) and a walk in three innings. Chris Smith was unscathed, pitching an inning of relief and striking out one and lefty Matt Dermody (yesterday named to the Arizona Fall League) gave up two unearned runs on three hits over 2/3 of an inning before Dustin Antolin got out of the jam. Aaron Loup allowed two more runs in the eighth and Ryan Tepera, mercifully, threw a clean ninth, striking out two.

Matt Dominguez was 3/4 with a double and both of the Bisons’ RBI while Dalton Pompey was 2/4 with a run and an outfield assist.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 7, Trenton Thunder 2

 

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats got another home run from Rowdy Tellez and the pitching staff held the Trenton Thunder to just two runs in a 7-2 win. Tellez was 2/3 with a walk, a solo blast and two runs while Christian Lopes had two hits, scoring and driving in a run. Jon Berti was 1/4 with a double, driving in two runs, scoring once and stealing a base.

John Straka started for New Hampshire and allowed two runs on four walks and three hits with three strikeouts over six innings. John Stilson allowed just one hit over two innings and Wil Browning finished the game with a scoreless ninth.

Dunedin Blue Jays, Tampa Yankees

 

Double header was cancelled due to rain.

 

Lansing Lugnuts 3, Bowling Green Hot Rods 1

 

In a low-scoring affair, Angel Perdomo dominated on the mound like he has shown at time this season to help the Lugnuts to a 3-1 win in their opener against the Bowling Green Hot Rods. Perdomo went 5 2/3 innings, giving up six hits and one run while striking out seven and not walking anyone. Geno Encina made his Lansing debut and gave up just two htis and a walk with three strikeouts over 2 1/3 innings and Andrew Case saved his ninth game with a scoreless ninth.

Joshua Palacios led the hitters with three base hits while Andrew Guillotte was 2/4 with an RBI and a run. J.B. Woodman drove in a run with a double, going 1/4.

Vancouver Canadians 13, Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 8

 

The Vancouver Canadians finally got a win in this series against the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, beating them 13-8 and getting through a rain delay. The delay ousted starter Mike Ellenbest who went two innings and gave up two run son three hits with two strikeouts. Andy Ravel resumed after the delay, allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks in 3 1/3 innings before Jackson McClelland shut the door, giving up three hits but no runs over 2 2/3 innings. Christian Cox made his Vancouver debut and allowed a run on two hits and a walk with one strikeout in the ninth inning.

The offense clicked into gear for the Canadians, getting three hits from Jacob Anderson who was 3/5 with a double, an RBI and three runs. Javier Hernandez was 2/4 with a home run and three RBI, adding a walk while Deiferson Barreto was 2/4 with a double and a home run, driving in three. Juan Tejada was 2/5 with a triple and two runs.

Roster Notes: While not reported officially through MiLB.com, the Canadians are reporting that C Owen Spiwak, RHP Jared Carkuff and 1B David Jacob have been promoted to Vancouver to help out throughout this week and weekend.

 

Bluefield Blue Jays 3, Princeton Rays 5

 

The Bluefield Blue Jays lost their third straight game to the Princeton Rays 5-3 on Wednesday. Bradley Jones was, once again, the offensive star, going 2/4 with two doubles and two RBI. Jesus Severino also had two hits including a triple and scored twice. Reggie Pruitt contributed with a hit, an RBI, a run and an outfield assist.

Yennsy Diaz gave up three home runs in his five innings, allowing five runs on six hits and two walks in taking the loss. Angel Alicea threw three excellent innings, giving up two hits and walking a batter while striking out five.
