The top two clubs in the Blue Jays’ organization, the Buffalo Bisons and the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, and the bottom clubs in the organization, the GCL and DSL Blue Jays all won their games but the teams in the middle all lost including a sweep of a double header for the Bluefield Blue Jays as the organization had a cumulative 4-5 record.

 

Buffalo Bisons 4, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 2

 

The Buffalo Bisons used runs in the third and fourth to break an early tie and beat the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 4-2 in Thursday’s action. Nick Tepesch made the start and gave up both runs to the RailRiders thanks to a two-run home run from Nick Cave in the first inning. Tepesch allowed four hits and one walk while striking out one in five innings. Tim Mayza and Murphy Smith each followed with a scoreless innings while Jeff Beliveau went 1 1/3 innings, giving up a hit and Leonel Campos allowed a hit and struck out one in 2/3 of an inning.

Jon Berti led the offense, going 3/5 with an RBI and a run, stealing his 16th base of the year while Jake Elmore drove in two runs, going 1/3. Rowdy Tellez was on base twice, going 1/3 with an RBI and a walk and Christian Lopes was 1/4 with a walk and two runs. Roemon Fields was 1/3 and stole his club-high 32nd base of the year.

Roster Notes: Chad Girodo was assigned to Dunedin for a rehab assignment. Andrew Case was sent down to New Hampshire and Brett Oberholtzer was sent outright to Buffalo.

 

 

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 3, Bowie BaySox 0

 

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats shut out the Bowie BaySox on Thursday night thanks to Ryan Borucki asserting his dominance in a 3-0 win. Borucki went seven innings, giving up just six hits and striking out seven. Francisco Rios and Carlos Ramirez each struck out one batter in a hitless inning of relief, with Ramirez picking up his second save.

Richard Urena had a pair of hits including a double and a pair of RBI for the Fisher Cats. Emilio Guerrero was 1/3 with a double and the third RBI and Harold Ramirez and Tim Lopes were each 1/2 with a walk.

Roster Notes: Thomas Pannone was assigned to New Hampshire and Andrew Case came back to New Hampshire from Buffalo. Matthew Dean and Kender Villegas were placed on the 7-day DL.

 

Dunedin Blue Jays 0, Charlotte Stone Crabs 2

 

The Dunedin Blue Jays had nine hits but couldn’t score a run, losing to the Charlotte Stone Crabs 2-0. John Straka was solid for the Blue Jays, tossing six innings and giving up two runs despite allowing six hits and four walks with two strikeouts. Adonys Cardona tossed a scoreless frame and Chad Girodo, in a rehab outing and Jackson McClelland followed with an inning each without giving up a run with McClelland striking out two.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was 3/4 with two doubles, a walk and a stolen base while D.J. Davis was 2/3 with a walk and a stolen base. Jake Thomas was 1/3 with a walk and two outfield assists.

Roster Notes: Chad Girodo was assigned to Dunedin for a rehab assignment and Tayler Saucedo was placed on the temporarily inactive list with Geno Encina arriving from Lansing.

 

Lansing Lugnuts 2, Bowling Green Hot Rods 10

 

An eight-run fourth inning for the Bowling Green Hot Rods sunk the Lansing Lugnuts who lost by that exact margin, 10-2. Justin Maese made his first start back with the Lugnuts after returning from injury and, while he allowed three hits through the first three innings, getting a ton of ground balls, Maese fell apart in the fourth. He wasn’t able to retire anyone in the fourth, pitching to seven batters and ultimately was charged with eight runs on eight hits and two walks with two strikeouts over three plus innings. Andy Ravel came in with two runners on and allowed both to score and allowed a run of his own, striking out five over 2 2/3 innings. Jared Carkuff was left with the bases loaded and stranded all three, pitching 1 1/3 innings, giving up a run on two hits. Nick Hartman surrendered a hit but nothing more in an inning, striking out one.

Mattingly Romanin was 2/3 with two doubles and a run in the loss while Josh Palacios was 1/2 with an RBI and two walks and was caught stealing. J.B. Woodman had the club’s only other hit.

Vancouver Canadians 8, Hillsboro Hops 9

 

The Vancouver Canadians returned from their All-Star break to lose 9-8 to the Hillsboro Hops in 11 innings. The Canadians did all of their scoring in the second inning and had three hits including a single, double and triple from Kacy Clemens who took a walk, scored a run and drove in three. Riley Adams was 2/5 with an RBI and two runs while Kevin Vicuna was 2/6 with a run and Reggie Pruitt was 2/6 with an RBI and a run.

Colton Laws started and struck out one in his inning of work while Donnie Sellers gave up three runs on five hits in two innings. Jose Espada only went 1 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on four hits with two walks and one strikeout and Chris Hall allowed just one hit but allowed two of his three inherited runners to score despite not allowing a run of his own in 2 2/3 innings with two strikeouts. Jake Fishman gave up a run in the eighth, blowing the save and allowing the Hops to tie the game and Grayson Huffman took the loss, giving up the run in the 11th inning after two scoreless innings.

Bluefield Blue Jays 1, Pulaski Yankees 2

 

 

The Bluefield Blue Jays dropped the first half of their double header with the Pulaski Yankees 2-1 on Thursday. The Blue Jays had just four hits including a double and a walk from Ryan Noda, who’s hitting .438 for the season. Ryan Gold was 1/3 with the club’s only RBI. Samad Taylor was 0/2 with a walk in his Blue Jays debut.

Joel Espinal was solid for the Blue Jays, going five innings and giving up two runs on four hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Elio Silva finished the game with two strikeouts in the sixth inning.

Roster Notes: Elieser Medrano was assigned to Bluefield from the GCL and Tanner Kirwer was placed on the 60-day DL. Samad Taylor was assigned to Bluefield.

 

Bluefield Blue Jays 4, Pulaski Yankees 5

 

In the second game of their double header with the Pulaski Yankees, the Bluefield Blue Jays  discovered that two runs in the top of the seventh were too little, too late as they fell 5-4. Freddy Rodriguez was 2/3 with a home run and two RBI while Chavez Young also drove in a pair of runs with a home run, going 1/3.

Alvaro Galindo allowed all five runs but only one was earned as he gave up five hits (including a home run) with four strikeouts in five innings. Jose Nova finished the game with a clean sixth.

GCL Blue Jays 7, GCL Tigers East 2

 

It was a great day if your name was De Los Santos and you were playing for the GCL Blue Jays (22-11) who beat the GCL Tigers East by a 7-2 score. Luis De Los Santos was one of two Blue Jays with three hits, going 3/5 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs while Joseph Reyes was 3/5 with a double, two RBI and two runs. Jose Theran was 2/3 with two walks and a run while D.J. Daniels was 1/4 with a walk and an RBI.

On the mound, Maverik Buffo started and threw a scoreless first inning, giving up a hit and striking out two. Alvery De Los Santos, who just turned 18 in July, went five innings for the win, giving up a run on four hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Justin Watts allowed a run on three hits with two strikeouts in two innings and Jonathan Cheshire pitched a scoreless ninth.

Roster Notes: Elieser Medrano was promoted to Bluefield.

 

DSL Blue Jays 12, DSL Mariners 9

 

The DSL Blue Jays beat the DSL Mariners 12-9 in a rain-shortened game. Elixon Caballero allowed two hits and three walks with four strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings as he continued his transition into the starting rotation. Ronald Magdaniel got the win, giving up a run on two hits in 2 1/3 innings. Luis Alvarez allowed four runs in the seventh inning, walking three and allowing only one hit in 2/3 of an inning while Juan Jimenez allowed two of the three inherited runners to score, giving up two hits and a walk in 1 1/3 innings. Jeison Contreras allowed four runs (three earned) in the ninth but was let off the hook when the game was called with two outs.

Warnel Valdez had three hits, going 3/4 with an RBI and two runs. Rafael Lantigua was 2/5 with two RBI, Yhon Perez was 2/4 with a walk, a double, an RBI and a run, Andres Martinez was 2/5 with two RBI and a run, Leonicio Ventura was 2/5 with a double and two runs and Hugo Cardona was 2/4 with a walk, a double, an RBI and a run.
