The Blue Jays minor leaguers came up with just two wins in seven games, but a Canadian prospect had a phenomenal day in Dunedin.

 

Buffalo Bisons 2, Rochester Red Wings 1

 

The Buffalo Bisons began their series with the Rochester Red Wings on the right foot, beating the home side 2-1 in 11 innings. Michael Saunders scored the winning run for the Bisons after singling to start the 11th, and was moved over on a single by Gregorio Petit and a sac bunt by Roemon Fields. He was brought home when pinch hitter Dwight Smith Jr. drove him home on a sacrifice fly. For Saunders, it was his third hit of the game as he went 3/5 with a double, an RBI and a run. Christian Lopes was 2/5 with a double and Jon Berti was 2/4 with a run.

Luis Santos was outstanding, giving up just one run (on a solo home run) on five hits with seven strikeouts in seven innings. Carlos Ramirez continued his earned-run-free season, going two scoreless frames, allowing two hits and a walk with two strikeouts and Leonel Campos got the win with two more scoreless innings, walking one and striking out two.

Roster Notes: Nick Tepesch was optioned to Buffalo and Justin Shafer was sent back to New Hampshire. Luke Maile was sent to Buffalo to continue his rehab and Ian Parmley was activated from the DL.

 

 

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 1, Hartford Yard Goats 4

 

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats scored just one run on eight hits losing 4-1 to the Hartford Yard Goats. Jonathan Davis had three hits including a double while Reese McGuire continues to have a hot August (despite the cool temperatures), going 2/4 with his sixth home run of the year. Tim Lopes also had a pair of singles.

Conner Greene took the loss, going 6 2/3 innings, giving up four runs on seven hits (including a home run) and two walks with three strikeouts. Justin Shafer marked his return by allowing both inherited runs to score, giving up a hit and two walks with one strikeout in 1 1/3 innings. Jose Fernandez pitched a clean ninth inning.

Dunedin Blue Jays 3, Tampa Yankees 4

 

The Dunedin Blue Jays lost their series opener to the Tampa Yankees 4-3 despite hitting three home runs as a club. Connor Panas provided two of those home runs, going 2/4 with the two solo dingers and Bo Bichette was 1/3 with a solo shot of his own and a walk. Edward Olivares was on base three times, going 2/3 with a walk.

Jordan Romano started and gave up three runs on nine hits (including a home run) and a walk with six strikeouts over five innings. Alonzo Gonzalez took the loss, allowing another solo home run among two hits with two strikeouts over two innings and Adonys Cardona struck out three in two perfect innings.

Lansing Lugnuts 3, Fort Wayne TinCaps 11

 

The Lansing Lugnuts lost the opener of their series with the Fort Wayne TinCaps, getting hit hard in an 11-3 loss. Andy Ravel was charged with the loss, giving up six runs on six hits (including a home run) and two walks with one strikeout in 1 1/3 innings. Griffin Glaude gave up another five runs despite striking out five batters in 2 2/3 innings. Andrew Deramo went two scoreless innings, allowing two hits and a walk with three strikeouts and Chris Hall finished the final three innings, striking out four and giving up two hits.

Kevin Vicuna (2/4), Nash Knight (2/4, R) and Ridge Smith (2/4, 2B, RBI) each had two hits while David Jacob hit a two-run home run, his first in the Midwest League. Yeltsin Gudino was 1/4 with a triple.

Vancouver Canadians 4, Everett AquaSox 11

 

The Vancouver Canadians pitchers weren’t able to contain the Everett AquaSox in an 11-4 loss on Friday. Dany Jimenez couldn’t get out of the first inning, giving up five runs on five hits in 2/3 of an inning. Grayson Huffman allowed the runner he inherited to score, but no more in 1 1/3 innings, allowing two hits and a walk with three strikeouts. Brody Rodning gave up six more runs (four earned) on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts in four innings and Brayden Bouchey pitched two perfect innings to finish the game.

Brock Lundquist was 2/4 for the Cs and Riley Adams drove in two runs, going 1/4. Kacy Clemens was 1/4 with a walk, an RBI and a run while Norberto Obeso was also 1/4 with a walk and a run.

Bluefield Blue Jays 8, Kingsport Mets 4

 

The Bluefield Blue Jays beat the Kingsport Mets again, winning 8-4 in the wake of news that the Blue Jays swept the Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year honours. Ryan Noda, the 2017 Player of the Year, went 2/5 with a run while Yorman Rodriguez was 3/5 with a run. Jesus Severino was 2/3 with two doubles, a walk, an RBI and two runs. Chavez Young also drove in a pair of runs, going 1/4, as did McGregory Contreras who also scored a run.

Appalachian League Pitcher of the Year Randy Pondler had a solid start, going six innings and giving up two runs on six hits and a walk with seven strikeouts to earn his fourth win of the season. Jose Nova gave up two runs in an inning of relief and Connor Law pitched two scoreless frames to finish the game.

GCL Blue Jays 2, GCL Phillies 3

 

The GCL Blue Jays lost in 10 innings to the GCL Phillies, 3-2. Davis Schneider and Luis De Los Santos had three hits apiece with De Los Santos driving in a run while D.J. Neal was 2/4 with an RBI and Jose Theran was 2/4 with a run. Otto Lopez was 1/3 with a walk.

Matthew Gunter had a strong game, going six scoreless innings, giving up just three hits and striking out six. Rafael Monsion got a blown save, giving up two runs on a hit and two walks with one strikeout in two innings and Yunior Hinojosa allowed an unearned run on one walk over two innings to take the loss.
