August 18, 2017 Toronto Blue Jays Minor League Report

In six complete games, the Blue Jays’ minor league affiliates were 2-4 on Friday but the Bisons were led by one of the Jays’ highest-climbing prospects.

 

Buffalo Bisons 4, Gwinnett Braves 3

 

Danny Jansen hit his first Triple-A home run to give the Buffalo Bisons a 4-3 win over the Gwinnett Braves. Jansen was 2/4 with the solo blast and two runs on the night while Rowdy Tellez also had a pair of hits and an RBI. Gregorio Petit was 2/4 with two doubles and an RBI and Michael Saunders was 1/4 with a double and an RBI.

Murphy Smith continues to get stretched out and he threw four innings, giving up a run on four hits with three strikeouts. Mike Bolsinger tossed three frames, getting the win but giving up two runs on three hits (including a home run) and two walks with three strikeouts. Jeff Beliveau allowed three hits and a walk with three strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings and Chris Smith got the final out to earn the save.

Roster Notes: Wil Browning was placed on the 7-day DL retroactive to August 16 and Brett Anderson was assigned to Buffalo.

Dunedin Blue Jays 4, St. Lucie Mets 0

The Dunedin Blue Jays rebounded from their demoralizing loss on Thursday by shutting out the St. Lucie Mets 4-0 on Friday. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. homered in his second consecutive game, going 2/4 with two RBI. Juan Kelly was 3/3 with a double and an RBI while Cavan Biggio also went yard, going 2/3 with a walk, a home run and two runs. Luke Maile started and went 0/3.

Tayler Saucedo tossed six scoreless innings, giving up just three hits and three walks with two strikeouts to earn his second win with Dunedin. Alonzo Gonzalez allowed a hit and a walk with one strikeout in 1 2/3 innings and Jackson McClelland finished the game, striking out two in 1 1/3 innings.

Roster Notes: Bobby Eveld was assigned to the Dunedin Blue Jays from the GCL.

 

Lansing Lugnuts 3, South Bend Cubs 5

The Lansing Lugnuts’ losses are mounting as they drop another game 5-3 to the South Bend Cubs. South Bend scored five runs early off of Osman Gutierrez who gave up the five runs on eight hits and two walks with five strikeouts in six innings to take his 11th loss of the season. Griffin Glaude provided two scoreless innings of relief and Denis Diaz walked two but didn’t allow a run in the ninth.

Joshua Palacios continues to be hot, going 2/4 with an RBI and a run. Nick Sinay was 1/2 with two walks and a run, stealing a base and Rodrigo Orozco was 1/5 with a stolen base and a run. Mitch Nay was 1/3 with a walk.

Roster Notes: Mattingly Romanin was sent back to Vancouver and Osman Gutierrez was activated.

 

Vancouver Canadians 2, Spokane Indians 3

 

The solo home run was the curse of the Vancouver Canadians on Friday as they lost 3-2 in 11 innings, giving up three solo home runs to the Spokane Indians. Nate Pearson started things off on the right foot, throwing three perfect innings, striking out two. Brody Rodning gave up a run on six hits with three strikeouts in four innings and William Ouellette was credited with a blown save, giving up a run on three hits and a walk with two strikeouts in two innings. Brayden Bouchey got the loss, giving up a solo home run to the first batter in the bottom of the 11th after striking out the side and walking one in the 10th.

Brock Lundquist started the scoring for the Canadians, hitting a solo home run and going 2/5. Brandon Polizzi was 0/3 with a walk and drove in the club’s only other run.

Roster Notes: Mattingly Romanin returned to Vancouver from Lansing.

 

Bluefield Blue Jays 5, Johnson City Cardinals 10

The Bluefield Blue Jays lost their second in a row to the Johnson City Cardinals, 10-5 as the defense struggled, making four errors. Starter Josh Winckowski allowed five runs but only two were earned, over 3 2/3 innings. Marcus Reyes allowed four more runs but all were unearned as he allowed just one hit and one walk and struck out four in just one inning. Mitch McKown allowed a run on two hits and a walk with two strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings and Tyler Olander provided two scoreless innings with Kelyn Jose throwing another scoreless frame to finish the game.

Ryan Gold had a big game at the plate, going 2/4 with a double, a home run and three RBI, scoring twice but the catcher also committed three passed balls. Jesus Severino was 2/3 with a double and an RBI but made two errors. Kevin Smith was 2/5 with two doubles and an error and Ryan Noda was 2/5.

GCL Blue Jays, GCL Tigers East

 

Game suspended in the 6th inning in a 2-2 tie.

 

 

DSL Blue Jays 3, DSL Mariners 4

 

The DSL Blue Jays lost their game to the DSL Mariners 4-3 after the Mariners scored three runs in the ninth inning. Juan Diaz had a solid start, giving up a run on four hits and two walks in 4 1/3 innings. Rafael Monsion gave the Jays 2 2/3 innings of scoreless ball, allowing just one hit while Luis Mendoza pitched a scoreless eighth, despite allowing two hits and a walk. Yunior Hinjosa allowed three unearned runs on two hits, including a home run, to take the loss and blow the save.

Steward Berroa was 2/4 with a run while Jose Briceno was 1/4 with a triple and an RBI and Victor Figuereo was 1/3 with a double and an RBI.
