The Blue Jays’ minor leaguers completed six games and lost four of them. A top prospect got hit hard on an otherwise quiet day.

 

Buffalo Bisons 4, Rochester Red Wings 3

 

The Buffalo Bisons got enough runs early to make Mike Bolsinger a winner for his first Bisons victory against a former Buffalo player, Canadian Andrew Albers. Bolsinger had a solid outing despite giving up two home runs but he tallied three runs against on seven hits and a walk in six innings with five strikeouts. Matt Dermody walked one in his inning of relief and Danny Barnes was exceptional, needing just 22 pitches to plow through six Rochester Red Wings, striking out four of them.

The middle of the Bisons’ lineup was very strong as Jesus Montero (2/4, R), Chris Colabello (2/4, R), Domonic Brown (2/4) and Casey Kotchman (2/4, R, RBI) all had two hits each. Dalton Pompey was 1/4 with an RBI and Andy Burns drove in a run and stole a base.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 1, Binghamton Mets 9

 

Conner Greene followed up his six no-hit innings in his last outing with some ugliness on the ballfield on Wednesday, as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats lost 9-1 to the Binghamton Mets. Greene walked six and allowed six earned runs (seven overall) on seven hits while striking out two over 4 2/3 innings. Colton Turner followed and gave up a run on three hits in 2 1/3 innings with a strikeout and Wil Browning struck out four over two innings with just one hit and one unearned run against.

The offense could only score once on ten hits with Ian Parmley leading the way, going 3/4 with a run but also committing one of three New Hampshire errors. Ryan Lavarnway was 2/5.

Dunedin Blue Jays 0, Daytona Tortugas 0

 

Game suspended in the second inning. To be completed on August 18.

 

Lansing Lugnuts 2, Great Lakes Loons 3

 

The Lansing Lugnuts offense was ineffectual at best but still managed to hang in there for 11 innings of baseball before the Great Lakes Loons finally took the lead and held on to win. The Lugnuts had just four hits including a double from Jake Thomas  (who also stole a base) and an RBI single from Justin Atkinson. Ryan Hissey had a sac fly and a walk while Juan Kelly had a single and a walk and scored a run, adding a stolen base.

Josh DeGraaf had a solid start, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits (including a home run) and three walks with six strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings. Kirby Snead threw two shutout frames, stranding the two runners he inherited from DeGraaf and giving up two hits with two strikeouts. Jackson Lowery stranded a runner and walked two with two strikeouts over 1 2/3 innings. Andrew Case took the loss, throwing two innings and giving up four hits and a run with a walk and two strikeouts.

Vancouver Canadians 2, Spokane Indians 4

 

The Vancouver Canadians continue to trudge towards the finish, losing 4-2 to the Spokane Indians despite getting 14 hits as a club. Getting two hits were Joshua Palacios (2/5), Cavan Biggio (2/4, SB, CS), Andres Sotillo (2/4), Christian Williams (2/3, BB) and Bryan Lizardo (2/4).

Nate Abel started and provided four innings of solid ball, giving up just one run on three hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Evan Smith allowed two more runs in 1 1/3 innings while Jackson McClelland gave up just one walk over 1 2/3 innings with three strikeouts. Zach Jackson allowed one more run on two hits and a walk in the eight, despite striking out the side and Gabe Noyalis had one of his best outings all year, striking out two in a 1-2-3 ninth.

GCL Blue Jays 10, GCL Tigers East 8

 

The GCL Blue Jays needed an offensive explosion to take care of the Tigers East and they got it. Chavez Young, the Jays’ 39th-rounder this year had a big, big game, going 4/5 with two doubles, a walk, two RBI with three runs and three stolen bases. Antony Fuentes had three hits, a stolen base and three RBI including a double while Dominic Abbadessa (2/5, 2 R, SB) and David Jacob (2/3, BB, 2 R, 2B) had two hits each.

Travis Hosterman went four innings, giving up one unearned run on two hits with a strikeout while Josh Winckowski got the win, despite giving up two runs on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts in three innings. Mitch McKown allowed three runs in 2/3 of an inning and Juan Meza poured gasoline on the fire, giving up another two runs on four walks and a hit before the eighth inning was over. Randy Pondler finished the game with a scoreless inning despite walking one and giving up a hit.

DSL Blue Jays 4, DSL Padres 7

 

The DSL Blue Jays lost another game, this time to the DSL Padres, by a 7-4 score. The Padres got to starter Emmanuel Reyes who couldn’t get out of the first inning, allowing three runs on three hits and two walks in 2/3 of an inning. Meliton Reyes followed and gave up two more runs in four innings, walking five and allowing four hits. Juan Bautista allowed two more runs in 3 1/3 innings, giving up five hits but without walking anyone.

The offense had 10 hits including two doubles and a walk from Jose Theran who scored twice while Yordegny Kelly was 2/4 with a double and an RBI, scoring a run. Luis De Los Santos was 2/4 with an RBI and a stolen base while Jonelvy Molina was also 2/4.
