Buffalo Bisons 2, Norfolk Tides 1

Matt Hague

While the Bisons got a little bit lucky last night against the Norfolk Tides, they’ll take the win. In the eighth inning, the Bisons benefitted from an error by Chris Parmelee and a failure by reliever Michael Bowden to stay upright while fielding a bunt. The Bisons also capitalized on a passed ball on an intentional walk that allowed Caleb Gindl to score. Ezequiel Carrera was 2/4 with a stolen base while Matt Hague (the intentional walkee) was 2/4 with two doubles and an RBI.

Chad Jenkins provided six strong innings, allowing one run on five hits with three strikeouts while Preston Guilmet, Steve Delabar and Bo Schultz threw an inning each to finish the game.

Roster Notes: SS Kevin Nolan was promoted from New Hampshire while OF Chris Dickerson and RP Bobby Korecky were put on the DL and SP Todd Redmond was activated off the DL.

Player of the Game: Matt Hague and Chad Jenkins

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 4, Trenton Thunder 1

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats completed a sweep of the Trenton Thunder thanks to some timely offense and excellent pitching from John Anderson. Ryan Schimpf hit his fourth home run of the season off of hard-throwing righty Luis Severino but most of the damage was done against the Thunder bullpen. Matt Newman went 3/4 with a double and two RBI while Jack Murphy, swinging exclusively from the left side now, went 3/4 with a double and an RBI.

Anderson had his longest outing since June 11, 2009 and only his second seven-inning performance of his professional career, going seven with just one hit and three walks against, allowing one run while striking out five. Still, Austin Bibens-Dirkx picked up the win in relief while Blake McFarland picked up the save.

Roster Notes: Kevin Nolan was promoted to Buffalo and Christian Lopes came up to New Hampshire

Lansing Lugnuts 1, Lake County Captains 2

Justin Shafer

In a low-scoring game, the Lansing Lugnuts weren’t able to get enough offense together to overcome a 2-1 deficit at the hands of the Lake County Captains. Sean Reid-Foley made the start for Lansing and didn’t allow any runs over his three innings but he did walk four batters, striking out three and allowing just one hit. Andrew Case was tagged for the two runs on two solo home runs in just one inning of work while Justin Shafer was excellent yet again, going four innings without allowing a hit and walking three.

The Lugs had only four hits including two from Justin Atkinson and a double each from Tim Locastro and Rowdy Tellez who also took a walk.

Player of the Game: Sean Reid-Foley and Justin Shafer
