Friday night turned out to be a 3-1 day for the Blue Jays minor league affiliates but the Jays’ top prospect was removed from the game in Lansing without a word of explanation.

 

 

Buffalo Bisons 0, Durham Bulls 3

 

The Buffalo Bisons’ bats went silent as they dropped the opener of their series with the powerhouse Durham Bulls 3-0. The Herd had only four hits with Dwight Smith, Jr. the only Bison to reach base twice with a single and a walk.

T.J. House struck out eight in taking the loss, allowing all three runs on eight hits and two walks through five innings. Murphy Smith provided three scoreless innings of relief, allowing one hit and striking out three.

Roster Notes: Luke Maile was recalled to the Blue Jays along with Matt Dermody while Casey Lawrence and Danny Barnes were sent back to Buffalo.

 

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 7, Binghamton Rumble Ponies 5

 

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats held off the Binghamton Rumble Ponies for a 7-5 win on Friday night. The Fisher Cats opened with a four-run salvo in the top of the first inning, getting doubles from Richard Urena and Ryan McBroom sandwiched around a walk from Anthony Alford and followed by a home run from Emilio Guerrero. The Fisher Cats added three more runs over the course of the game and they proved to be enough for the win. Guerrero added a walk and was 1/3 with the two-run home run. Urena added a single, going 2/4 while Alford dropped his batting average to .397 with a double in three at bats, taking a walk. Jonathan Davis was also 1/3 with a walk, an RBI and a run.

Shane Dawson allowed three runs over six innings on seven hits and two walks with four strikeouts to earn his first win of the season. Blake McFarland and Chris Rowley each added a scoreless inning of work with Rowley striking out two, and Jose Fernandez made things a bit scary, giving up a two-run home run in the ninth before closing things out.

Dunedin Blue Jays 8, Charlotte Stone Crabs 4

 

The Dunedin Blue Jays (12-10) scored eight runs for the second consecutive game and Mad Max Pentecost went deep for the sixth time this season, tying him for the organization lead in home runs in an 8-4 win to open the D-Jays’ series with the Fort Myers Miracle. Pentecost continues to be red hot, going 3/5 with a home run and two singles, scoring twice while Danny Jansen pushed his batting average to .389 thanks to a pair of singles and an RBI. Derrick Loveless was 2/4 with a walk, an RBI and two runs at Matt Dean is heating up with the bat, going 2/5 with a double. Cavan Biggio hit his first home run of the season, going 1/4 with a walk, an RBI and two runs and Andrew Guillotte had another strong game at the top of the lineup, going 1/3 with a double, two walks, a run and an outfield assist. Kevin Vicuna also contributed, going 1/4 with a walk and two RBI.

Conor Fisk earned his first win of the year, tossing six innings of three run (two earned) ball, allowing seven hits and two walks, striking out three. Connor Eller allowed a run on three hits and a walk in 1 1/3 innings while Andrew Case came in with the bases loaded and one out in the eighth and stranded all three runners, striking out three over 1 2/3 innings for the save.

Lansing Lugnuts 8, Bowling Green Hot Rods 5

 

The Lansing Lugnuts (12-10) scored five runs over the first three innings of their game against the Bowling Green Hot Rods and didn’t score again until the 11th inning, holding on for an 8-5 win in extra innings. Starter Justin Maese continues to struggle to keep the opposition from scoring but he did throw seven innings, needing 94 pitches (66 strikes) and allowing five runs on 11 hits and one walk with six strikeouts. Geno Encina went four innings, giving up just one hit and three walks with two strikeouts to finish the game and pick up his second win of the year.

Shortstop Yeltsin Gudino hit his first home run of the year, going 2/5 with three RBI and every other starter had at least one hit except for Joshua Palacios who walked twice and scored a run. Bo Bichette led the charge with three hits including a double, pushing his batting average to .394 and scored twice while adding a stolen base. Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. was 1/1 with a stolen base and an RBI but was removed from the game in the third inning. Edward Olivares was 2/5 with two runs and J.B. Woodman was 2/6 with two RBI.
