The Buffalo Bisons hosted the first game of the year at Coca-Cola Field while the Fisher Cats had a night off. The teams went 1-2 thanks to a big win by the Lansing Lugnuts.
Buffalo Bisons 1, Indianapolis Indians 2
In their home opener, the Buffalo made it through a rain delay and got a strong start from Sam Gaviglio, only to lose 2-1 to the Indianapolis Indians. Gaviglio pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing only two hits and two walks with four strikeouts until the rains came down. After the 1:39 rain delay, Chad Girodo came on and gave up two runs on four hits including a home run in 1 2/3 innings. Luis Santos tossed two innings, allowing a hit and a walk with three strikeouts and Carlos Ramirez pitched a scoreless ninth.
The offense had eight hits but could only score one run on a solo home run by Teoscar Hernandez, his second in as many games, who was 2/3. Reese McGuire was 2/4 as was Jason Leblebijian who also stole a base. Dwight Smith Jr. was 1/3 with a walk and a stolen base.

Dunedin Blue Jays 3, Palm Beach Cardinals 4
The Dunedin Blue Jays had their record evened at 4-4 after a 4-3 loss to the Palm Beach Cardinals that featured Logan Warmoth‘s first Advanced-A home run. Warmoth drove in two runs, going 1/4. Bradley Jones (2/4), Riley Adams (2/4, RBI) and Nash Knight (2/4) all had a pair of singles each while Rodrigo Orozco hit a double. Anthony Alford was 0/2 with a walk and a run, scoring on Warmoth’s first-inning home run.
Patrick Murphy got the start and struggled to find his groove early. He escaped damage in the first despite giving up two singles and throwing a wild pitch but he was burned in the second, allowing two consecutive singles and, an out later, giving up a triple. In the third he allowed back to back doubles with one out and then hit a batter but he emerged from that inning without any further damage and got through the fourth and fifth innings relatively unscathed, thanks to a runner caught stealing by Riley Adams. Murphy’s final line had him throw five innings, giving up three runs on seven hits with a walk, a hit batter and five strikeouts. William Ouellette pitched the sixth and seventh, allowing two hits and striking out three and Kirby Snead finished the game, taking the loss in the eighth inning, allowing a run on a hit and a walk though he struck out two.

Lansing Lugnuts 13, Fort Wayne TinCaps 4
The Lansing Lugnuts got behind the eight ball early, allowing three runs in the bottom of the first inning to the Fort Wayne TinCaps, but they chipped away at the lead, scoring a run in the fifth and the sixth and then tore the doors off by scoring 11 in the seventh to cruise to a 13-4 victory. Center fielder Chavez Young led the offense with a 2/5 games, hitting a double and a triple and driving in four runs while Kevin Vicuna was 2/6 with a triple, two RBI and a run. Cullen Large added three walks to a single and a double and scored twice and drove in one while Matt Morgan was 2/4 with a double, a walk and three runs. Ryan Noda was 0/3 but walked three times and scored twice while Christian Williams was 2/6 with two RBI and a run. Kacy Clemens also walked three times, scoring twice.
Zach Logue settled down after his first inning, scattering nine hits over 5 2/3 innings, allowing a home run and two walks while striking out three. Brody Rodning got the win, throwing 1 1/3 innings with a strikeout and Kyle Weatherly tossed a scoreless eighth, allowing a hit and striking out one. Andy Ravel finished it off, giving up a run on two hits in the ninth with one strikeout.
