The Blue Jays’ minor league affiliates were swept on Tuesday, losing all three games played while the Lansing Lugnuts had their game swept away by rain.

 

Buffalo Bisons 0, Rochester Red Wings 5

 

The Buffalo Bisons (4-1) couldn’t solve Rochester Red Wings starter Aaron Slegers (or any of the other pitchers for that matter), falling 5-0 on Tuesday in their first loss of the season. The batters had just two hits including one from the red-hot Jason Leblebijian who played shortstop and another from Ian Parmley, playing center field.

Brett Oberholtzer made his first start for the Bisons and was very solid, giving up three hits and two walks in just four innings, striking out seven. John Stilson allowed a run on a solo home run in 1 2/3 innings, taking the loss while Jeff Beliveau gave up another run in 1 2/3 and Wil Browning surrendered three more runs on four hits (including a home run) and two walks in two innings despite striking out three.

Roster Notes: Casey Lawrence was optioned back to Buffalo after the Blue Jays activated Roberto Osuna from the DL.

 

 

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 5, Reading Fightin Phils 10

 

The son of a former big leaguer threw five solid innings at the New Hampshire Fisher Cats as they fell to the Reading Fightin Phils by a 10-5 score. Brandon Liebrandt, son of Charlie Liebrandt, held the Fisher Cats to just two unearned runs on three hits and a walk, letting his own club jump out to a big lead. The Fightins jumped all over lefty Shane Dawson who gave up eight runs on 11 hits (including three home runs) in four innings for the Fisher Cats. Chris Rowley provided three excellent innings of relief, striking out three and giving up just three hits. Luis Santos allowed two more runs on three hits and a walk in one inning and Dusty Isaacs finished the game with a scoreless ninth, striking out one.

Offensively, the Fisher Cats had just six hits including a single from Reese McGuire who drove in three runs. Anthony Alford, Tim Lopes, Gunnar Heidt, Anthony Alford, Ryan McBroom and Emilio Guerrero provided the other hits.

Dunedin Blue Jays 4, Florida Fire Frogs 5

 

Juan Kelly led an 11-hit attack for the Dunedin Blue Jays (2-4) but despite coming back to tie up the Florida Fire Frogs, an eighth inning run by the Fire Frogs led to a 5-4 loss for the Blue Jays. Juan Kelly was 2/5 with a double and Danny Jansen (2/5, RBI, R) and J.C. Cardenas (2/4) had two hits each. Lane Thomas was 1/4 with a triple and an RBI while Derrick Loveless was 1/4 with a walk and an RBI. The defense in the game was not up to snuff, with the Jays committing three errors (by Jansen, Andrew Guillotte and Connor Panas) but none of the errors led directly to Fire Frogs runs. Guillotte, who was 1/5 with a run, also threw two runners out on the bases, picking up two outfield assists.

Starter Ryan Borucki struck out six in his five innings but allowed four runs on eight hits and two walks, coming away without a decision. Justin Shafer had two very good innings of relief, striking out four and giving up just one hit. Tom Robson took the loss, allowing two hits and a run despite throwing 13 of his 19 pitches for strikes and striking out two batters in one inning.

Roster Notes: Max Pentecost was sent back to extended spring training and Deiferson Barreto was promoted to Dunedin.
