April 10, 2017 Toronto Blue Jays Minor League Report

The Blue Jays’ affiliates dropped three of their four games on Monday, seeing one of the two undefeated seasons come to an end while the Buffalo Bisons kept their win streak alive.

Buffalo Bisons 9, Rochester Red Wings 4

The Buffalo Bisons (4-0) turned on the offense, getting a huge game from the shortstop Jason Leblebijian in a 9-4 win against the Rochester Red Wings, maintaining an undefeated record. Leblebijian was 3/4 with his second home run of the year and drove in three runs for the Bisons. Catcher Juan Graterol also had three hits (all singles) and scored two runs while Jake Elmore was 2/4 with a run and a walk and Chris Coghlan hit a double, going 1/4 with a walk, an RBI and a run.

Starter T.J. House was very strong, going five innings for his first win as a Bison, giving up two hits and three walks with five strikeouts but no runs. Leonel Campos gave up two runs on a home run in 1 1/3 innings while Chad Girodo allowed a run on two hits and two walks before Danny Barnes earned the save, allowing a run on four hits in 1 2/3 innings.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 7, Reading Fightin Phils 9

 

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats dropped to 1-3 after losing the opener of their series against the Reading Fightin Phils 9-7 despite coming back to make the game close. 2015 first-round draft pick Jon Harris made his Double-A debut and he was hit hard, allowing six runs on nine hits (including three home runs) over four innings of work. He didn’t walk anyone and struck out three. Carlos Ramirez threw a strong three innings of relief, allowing just two hits and striking out four without giving up any runs before Murphy Smith surrendered three more runs in 1 1/3 innings, two of which came in on a fielder’s choice to and an error by Tim Lopes after Tim Mayza had relieved Smith.

The Fisher Cats tried to chip away and stay in the game, starting off with the first home run of the year for third baseman Gunnar Heidt. Tim Lopez was 2/5 with two doubles and Anthony Alford was on base five times, continuing his torrid start to the year with two singles and three walks, driving in two runs and scoring once. Ryan McBroom was 3/5 with a double and three RBI for the Fisher Cats. The Fisher Cats tried to rally in the bottom of the ninth, down by five runs at the time. They scored three, getting a single from Jonathan Davis and a one-out double by Tim Lopes. That was followed by a walk from Richard Urena, loading the bases and a walk from Anthony Alford, scoring one. Ryan McBroom hit an RBI single and a wild pitch scored Richard Urena but Reese McGuire‘s strikeout ended the game with the Fisher Cats still two runs short.

Dunedin Blue Jays 0, Florida Fire Frogs 4

In their first game ever against the newly renamed Florida Fire Frogs, the Dunedin Blue Jays were stymied by the highly touted Touki Toussaint in a 4-0 loss. The Blue Jays had just two hits in the game, from Cavan Biggio and Connor Panas while Derrick Loveless and Mike Reeves walked twice each.

Conor Fisk had a decent start but allowed three runs on just four hits (including two home runs) without walking anyone and striking out seven in 5 2/3 innings. Josh DeGraaf gave up a hit and struck out a batter before Adonys Cardona was charged with an unearned run on two hits in his inning and Kender Villegas walked one and struck out in the eighth.

Player of the Game: None

Roster Notes: Max Pentecost was sent back to extended spring training and Deiferson Barreto was promoted to Dunedin.

 

Lansing Lugnuts 1, Bowling Green Hot Rods 4

The Lansing Lugnuts (4-1) got off the bus after a long ride down to Bowling Green, Kentucky and were hung with their first loss of the season, dropping the game 4-1 to the Bowling Green Hot Rods. Osman Gutierrez was on the mound for the start and gave up two runs on three hits, three walks and struck out five, leaving with two runners on but no one in. Daniel Lietz entered with no one out in the sixth and allowed both of the inherited runners to score while giving up two more of his own on three hits (including a home run) and two walks with four strikeouts in two innings. Zach Jackson pitched a clean eighth, getting two groundouts and a strikeout.

The Lugnuts totaled eight hits including a single and triple from Bradley Jones and a single and double from Jake Thomas who added a walk. Vladimir Guerrero, Jr., Christian Williams, Ryan Hissey and Yeltsin Gudino had a hit each.
