Now that the season is over, the crew at Blue Jays from Away will take a look at the Blue Jays one by one and review how each player’s season went, whether he met expectations (or not) and look at how he fits into (what we think of) the Blue Jays’ plans going forward.
Darrell Ceciliani took a total of five at-bats with the Blue Jays this season. He was called up on May 16th as a replacement player for an injury-riddled outfield. He appeared in the game as a pinch-runner that day, then went hitless in three at-bats in the next game.
On May 18th, Ceciliani hit an RBI double, and then a two-run home run. However, in the process of hitting the home run, he dislocated his shoulder and had to be placed on the disabled list. Just three days after being called up, his season was over.
Ceciliani was moved from the 10-day to the 60-day disabled list a few days later. He spent the rest of the year on rehab assignments in Dunedin and Buffalo. In five at-bats with the major-league team, he had hit .400/.400/1.200. He had 3 RBI, didn’t walk and didn’t strike out.
Contract Status:
Ceciliani was outrighted off the 40-man roster in November, and elected free agency.
