The Buffalo Bisons finally played a game for the first time in a week but they lost, along with two of the other three Blue Jays affiliates in action on Friday night.

 

Buffalo Bisons 2, Norfolk Tides 5

 

Ryan Borucki was hit hard and Dalton Pompey hit his first Buffalo home run of the year as The Herd fell 5-2 to the Norfolk Tides on Friday night in their first game in a week. Borucki allowed four runs on 10 hits and two walks with three strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings before Taylor Guerrieri tossed 2 1/3 innings, striking out three but giving up a run on three hits. Jake Petricka made his Buffalo debut, throwing a clean seventh, striking out one and Matt Dermody got through the eighth, giving up two hits and a walk but no runs.

The Bisons had just six hits including Pompey’s solo home run. He also had a walk, two runs and a stolen base. Dwight Smith Jr. was 1/2 with a double and three walks, adding a stolen base while Anthony Alford was 1/5 in his return. Rowdy Tellez was 1/4 with an RBI and Reese McGuire and Tim Lopes each had a single.

Roster Notes: Tim Mayza and Gift Ngoepe were optioned to Buffalo and Jake Petricka was activated off the DL. Murphy Smith was placed on the DL while Michael De La Cruz, Ian Parmley and Chad Girodo were sent to extended spring training.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 4, Reading Fightin Phils 5

 

Bo Bichette

The Fisher Cats staged a comeback in the top of the ninth inning but it wasn’t enough as they fell 5-4 to the Reading Fightin Phils on Friday night. Bo Bichette had the big blow in the ninth, driving in two runs on a single, going 2/4 with two RBI and a walk while Vladimir Guerrero Jr. drove in a pair of runs on two RBI ground outs, going 0/4. Jonathan Davis was on base twice, scoring both times, going 1/4 with a walk and two stolen bases. Andrew Guillotte also had a pair of singles and Cavan Biggio was 1/2 with a walk.

Nick Tepesch started for New Hampshire and took the loss, giving up five runs (four earned) on eight hits including a home run with a walk and four strikeouts in five innings. Conor Fisk finished, tossing three innings and giving up two hits and a walk with four strikeouts to finish the game.

Roster Notes: Lourdes Gurriel was promoted to Toronto and catcher Ryan Hissey was assigned to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats from extended spring training.

Dunedin Blue Jays 4, Daytona Tortugas 8

 

Travis Bergen

Dunedin Blue Jays’ starter Justin Dillon ran into trouble in the fifth inning after flirting with disaster in earlier innings, giving up six runs on the way to an 8-4 loss for to the Dayton Tortugas. Dillon was charged with six runs on nine hits and two walks over 4 1/3 innings, striking out four before William Ouellette took over, giving up two runs on four hits and two walks in 1 1/3 innings. Travis Bergen struck out four batters in 2 1/3 innings, allowing only a hit before Jackson McClelland pitched a clean ninth, striking out two batters.

D.J. Davis had two hits and an RBI while Eduard Pinto scored twice, going 1/2 with a double and a walk. Ivan Castillo hit a double and Joshua Palacios and J.C. Cardenas each drove in a run.

Roster Notes: J.C. Cardenas must have been activated from extended spring training when John La Prise went on the DL but there are is no record of that in the league transaction page.

Lansing Lugnuts 7, South Bend Cubs 1

 

The Lansing Lugnuts had a big game, running wild and piling seven runs on the South Bend Cubs to open their series on the road with a 7-1 win. Samad Taylor (2/5, 2B, RBI, R, SB), Kevin Vicuna (2/5, R, 2 SB), and Andres Sotillo (2/5, R, SB) each had two hits while Ryan Noda was 0/1 with three walks, a hit-by-pitch, two runs and a stolen base. Chavez Young was 1/4 with an RBI, a run and a stolen base and Christian Williams was 1/4 with a double and two RBI. Also stealing a base and giving the club seven steals in the game was Reggie Pruitt who was 1/4.

Zach Logue had a strong start, throwing six innings of two-hit ball, giving up just a solo home run while walking one and striking out five. Dalton Rodriguez tossed two scoreless innings, striking out two and hitting a batter. Dany Jimenez walked a pair but finished the game with a scoreless ninth, striking out one.
